Despite common belief, Starbucks employees are humans too. Most of us love what we are doing and enjoy serving coffee to those who treat us as people too. Although many things grind (coffee pun) our gears, these seven things drive Starbucks partners crazy!
1. No Greeting
"Welcome to Starbucks! How can I help you?"
"Pike. Cream n' sugar." *drives away*
When ordering at Starbucks, if your barista is making an effort to enhance your experience, please cooperate
2. Complaining about the Prices/ Attempting to Bargain.
Baristas are NOT corporate. We have no say regarding the cost of the product and don't appreciate being attacked for it. Feel free to express your opinions to our higher-ups.
3. Name Spelling
"There is an "H" at the end of my name!!!"
Starbucks employees write out hundreds of names per day. It is simply impossible and completely impractical to expect us to correctly spell every customers name. I was not born knowing how to spell "Kalitukeah" correctly.
4. Separate Orders
"Hiiiiiii, Can I have 6 separate orders?!"
No. No, you cannot. It slows our line down and confuses both parties.
5. Mocking the Nonexistent Starbucks "language"
"I'll have a larg-I mean venti! Whatever you guys call it here; I don’t speak your language
!""Wait, tall isn't the largest?!"
We all speak English. If you ask for a large, I understand what that means. If you don't understand the concept of our sizes, stick with the "normal" terms.
6. Saying you asked for an item one way when you really said another.
"I wanted that iced!" "I asked for decaf."
No, you didn't ask for decaf. Especially when I repeat your order to you and you say it is all correct.
7. The Secret Menu
"Can I have a triple chocolate meltdown thin mint caramel birthday cake spice frap?!"
I know I seem magical, but I really don't have special powers. I don't know what your random, arbitrarily named Frappuccino is and I can't magically make it unless you tell me the ingredients.
Overall, Starbucks employees love serving you. We love the connections we create with each and every one of you and have a passion for coffee unlike most. That being said, please respect us and try to stay away from doing these seven things; and to thank you we will aim "to inspire and nurture the human spirit – one person, one cup and one neighborhood at a time."
See you soon, Starbucks Customers!
