7 Useful Things I've Learned Over The Years

Sometimes you have to roll with the punches and learn as you go.

Over the years, I have learned many things about myself and life in general. It wasn't always easy and most of the time I learned these things the hard way, but everything I have learned has turned me into the person I am today. Not everyone shares the same experiences or learns the same things, but sometimes you can learn from others experiences and mistakes. Here are 7 things I have learned over the years.

1. Always be yourself.

There is no one like you and you are special in your own way. Always let your light shine and stay true to yourself. Love yourself and do what it takes to make yourself happy. At the end of the day, the only person standing in your corner who matters is yourself.

2. It's okay to not know what to do.

You are not always going to have the answers. You are going to freak out in certain situations. You will make mistakes. Always remember: it's okay. You don't have to know what to do; that's what's fun about life. You make mistakes, learn from them, and move on.

3. Sometimes you have to move on and let people go.

It's not always easy but some people just are not meant to stay in your life forever. Friends will come and go, and that's okay. Just remember to be strong and do what's best for you. You can't let unhealthy, toxic relationships keep you from being the best person you can be.

4. If you want something you have to work hard for it.

Nothing in life comes easy. Set a goal, achieve it, then set another one. Work hard for what you want and don't let anyone hold you back. There is no greater feeling than completing a goal that you have worked so hard to achieve.

5. Having a passion for something makes life easier.

My passion for singing has gotten me through many tough situations. For me, singing is a way of expressing myself and dealing with all that life throws at me. If you have a passion, stick with it. You never know what situations it'll get you through.

6. Your family and true friends want the best for you.

You may fight with them, disagree with them, and think that their opinion is wrong, but your family and friends always have your best interest at heart. Listen to them. Follow your heart and make your own decisions but listen to them. They really can help make things better.

7. You cannot give up on yourself.

When you get knocked down and kicked around by life, stand up and fight back. No matter what, always believe in yourself and your capabilities. You can do anything you want, you just can't give up on yourself.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
