7 Things I Learned from My Freshman Year Roommates
Tiff Gonzalez

The first year of college is a huge thing. It is the beginning of a new chapter in one's life. And it is the first time you are away from your parents. So, total freedom. But it is also the first time you are living with other people. People you barely know and have just met. Now you have to share a 4x4 space with them for months on end. But, you could have an awesome group that become your best friends.

1. You always have someone to talk to.

Whether you like it or not, there is always someone there you can talk to. Luckily for me, I had two roommates who were always there for me. If I was having a bad day, boy problems or needed a good laugh, they were always there.

2. You experience your "first" college experiences with them.

The boys from down the hall invite you out to your first frat party, but obviously you aren't going to go without your roomies or suitemates. You obviously have to take a super cute Instagram picture with your #roomies.

3. You always have someone to eat with.

Some people struggle with not having someone to be with 24/7. If you are hungry and don't want to go to the cafe by yourself, you have so many other people you can ask who are totally as hungry as you are. And the bonus is that they won't judge you on how many plates you get.

5. You and your roommate(s) share a special bond.

Even though you met them about a week ago, you feel like you have known each other since, like, forever. You cannot get over how lucky you are to have found your soulmate(s). You can be so totally weird and awkward, and they are right there with you.

4. You can finally have "late-night jam" sessions with more than just yourself.

Breaking out into a full blown concert at 2:30 in the morning? Um, why not? Your suitemates might be the only ones who think it is OK, but at least you are not alone. And when one of them brings out the guitar, you know it is about to go down.

6. You learn that it is not always glitter and gold living together.

"She moved my pens from the left side to the right. Why did she touch my stuff?" Sometimes you hit that rough patch that makes you want to reconsider why you ever decided to move in with them after all. This is only a phase for most. Trust me, you will forgive them over a late-night drunk crying sesh and be besties by the morning.

7. You finally made it.

After two semesters of endless fights, meltdowns, pre-games and parties, you are no longer freshmen. Congratulations, you made it. And a huge shoutout to the roomies that helped you get there.

Until the next year!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
