7 Things Every College Student Should Know

Here are 7 things I think are essential for everyone in college to know!

1. Sleep Is So Important. Honestly I have no idea how I stayed up all night and woke up in time for school in high school because I can't do that now to save my life. If I could give you one tip when going to college it is that you need to force yourself to stay on a sleeping schedule. Going to bed and waking up at the same time regulates your body and can lead to better brain function and you are more alert during the day. Getting your beauty sleep really matters.

2. Stay Hydrated. Our bodies are 73 percent water, When looking through the drink options in the dinning hall always go for water or juices. Stay away from always drinking soda or energy drinks. Not drinking water can make your skin feel and look dry, it can also make you feel more tired and can you will lack endorphin's.

3. Physical Activity. Whether you play on a sports team or not, having a a regular dose of physical activity will benefit you so much! Going on a walk, or going to the gym, or doing exercise's in your dorm, getting that extra dose of movement will help keep your muscles and bones active in the long run improving mobility. Physical activity also gives you endorphin's, and endorphin's make you happy! Who knows maybe working out could be your new hobby?

4. Amazon Prime For Students. Amazon offers Amazon Prime for college students with half off there regular price. Students get there first 6 months free, then pay 50 dollars a year for the entire time there in college. Amazon Prime offers two day shipping, and an endless amount of movies and TV shows.

5. Unidays. Unidays is an app that organizes every retail place that offers student discounts. They have deals online and in stores deals on everything from Burger King to Forever 21. Who doesn't like to save a couple dollars?

6. Find A Hobby. Stress can take over your life when you are in college and finding an outlet to express that stress is very important. For myself I liked going to the gym, and coloring. Whatever you are passionate about find it and make time for it. College is all about the books, but its also about learning to care for and managing yourself.

7. Saying No. In college there is a huge party scene. Do not be afraid to say no to going out or drinking or doing other recreational activities. If you have a big test to study for or even if you just don't want to it's okay to say no. The party environment is a lot more accepting of saying no than you think. You do not have to do things that you do not want to do.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
