I'm going to start by saying that when it comes to the kitchen, I have no idea what I'm doing. I can bake the occasional cupcake or cookie, but that's just because it requires very little effort and there's very little room to mess up. However, when it comes to cooking real meals, I'm pretty much clueless. As I moved into an apartment, my independence was tested. There was no avoiding it, I had to learn how to cook or I would probably starve or go broke; neither of which I was very keen on doing. My point is, a lot of things can go wrong when cooking for the first time, and trust me, a lot of things did.
1. Setting the smoke detector off.
When cooking bacon, try super hard to not set the smoke detector off, because this happened to me and I didn't know what to do, so I just started making a dance to the sound of it. For future reference, know that dancing doesn't really fix anything.
2. Trying to make cute Pinterest meals.
I don't know about you, but my addiction to Pinterest is very real. I spent all day looking up recipes for cute meals, but when actually trying to cook them, they turn out looking like a sad version of the Pinterest picture. They taste just as sad.
3. Start a fire.
A lot of things are flammable, and when you don't know what you're doing, "flammable" isn't really a term that fully registers in your head.
4. Give food poisoning to your friends.
If you're cooking for other people, stray away from fish, meat, and eggs. Basically stick to making them salad the first time, because you can't really mess up lettuce.
5. Going to the emergency room.
Except when you have to get stitches because cutting vegetables is a very dangerous task.
6. Accidentally putting something that should not go in the microwave in the microwave and it explodes.
Fireworks are cool and all, but not so much when they're coming from your kitchen.
7. Tripping over your feet.
Then spilling salt all of over the meal you just spent half and hour trying to make and then crying.
Keep calm and cook on.
