Ah prom, a night that is so overrated it actually is laughable. You pay hundreds of dollars to sit in a room with the people you see every day and dance and maybe, if you are lucky, get dinner (I went to a public school so we had some chips in the corner).

My younger brother has prom coming up so here are some tips to get through what could be the "best night of your life" (but probably won't be).

1. Be Nice To Your Date

Bro, girls love prom. They have been fantasizing about this night for probably their whole life. They want to get all dresses up and take pictures. Be a gentleman. You are wearing a tux so don't act like an idiot. Hold the door, pay the check, get her one of those dumb flower things and she will forever be grateful.

2. Get Ready To Spend Some $$$

Prom is expensive so get ready to spend your paycheck. Just accept it. Don't worry mom will most likely give you money because she loves you. You gotta get the tux and the corsage and all the other fun stuff. Get a nice dinner, but remember you will be dancing all night so no Mexican or Japanese food. Trust me.

3. Take Pictures

Take the dang pictures. I know you don't get why a random mother is telling you to kneel so your date can kiss you on the cheek in the middle of a garden, but just do it. Your date and you will look back at those pictures when you are a washed up college student and wish you could go back to the simple times. Take pictures with the random guy from your third-period class. You will probably never see them again so it's nice to look back and remember the guy you cheated off of. He deserves props.

4. Don't Be Too Cool To Dance

Go all out. I am talking Kevin Bacon in Footloose here. You will be the life of the party. Dance with your date, but remember, save room for Jesus.

5. Be Safe

Not to be Mom or anything but I don't know what all you crazy kids are doing. Be safe. Don't drive drunk. I'll come pick you up (since you won't let me come). It's not worth it to do anything stupid. Trust me, you'll do enough of that in college.

6. Don't Wear A Colored Tux

Just don't. It's ugly and tacky.

7. Have FUN

Have fun, li'l bro!!! Prom isn't all it's hyped up to be but it's still a great night. You will dance and hang out with your friends and have memories forever.

I love ya! Be safe. Have fun. Take me with you? No? Alright.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
