If you've ever worked a job in retail, you know the immediate struggle that comes along with it. Although "the customer is always right," my patience is tested on a daily basis. Yes, that discount is killer, but sometimes you question if your job is really worth working after all of these issues faced on a daily basis.
1. When customers come in a few hours before closing.
Finally, it is the last few minutes of the day. You are all ready to go with your register counted and section cleaned. But that one customer just has to walk in the store with 5 minutes left.
2. When they are on their cellphone and ignore you.
Nothing is more rude than checking someone out, while they completely ignore you because they're talking on their cell phone.
3. "Check the back."
I basically live at this store; I am positive that we don't have this black Michael Kors sandal in a size 8 in the back. However, I will go pretend to look in the stockroom... just to please you.
4. When they make a mess of the store.
I have a new found respect for shopping after working in retail. If I'm ever shopping at a store, I make it a point to leave everything as I found it-- clean and organized. There's nothing more frustrating than a customer ruining a display that you spent an hour organizing. Be respectful.
5. Returns.
Nothing is more annoying than going into the computer system and trying to find someones old receipt by payment method. Our lives would be a lot easier if you just remembered where you put the receipt.
6. Returns Part II.
If you're willing to shop at our store, please understand our return policy. Furthermore, please understand that I personally don't make the return policy. Please don't yell at me for something that's not my fault... if your item is past our return policy, there's nothing I can do.
7. When their children are running around the store
Control your children. Do not let them hide in the racks, or touch every piece of clothing and have them fall off the rack. We work hard to maintain a safe and clean store.
8. Customer Service
The hardest part about working in customer service is staying patient. Half the time, your problem isn't my fault. Please don't yell at me; I'm only human too. If you have a serious problem, take it up with corporate.
Even though retail may not be the most glamorous job, people will always be shopping leaving you cash in your pocket. Of course, you use your weekly paycheck to buy new clothes with your discount. Your job might not be the best, but at least you are always styling.
