My mom is a huge fan of crime shows. I'm convinced she was a detective in a past life. Because of this, I've been watching "Law & Order" (SVU, CI, and the original) as well as "Criminal Minds," and "NCIS" for a good amount of time. I know the detectives. I know their districts. I know the DAs. I also know which one I love the most... Law and Order SVU - without a doubt. I might have developed a slightly obsession... but only slight! Here's how you know:
1. As soon as a new episode starts, you begin the introduction.
"In the criminal justice system, sexually-based offenses are considered especially heinous. In New York City, the dedicated detectives who investigate these vicious felonies are members of an elite squad known as the Special Victims Unit. These are their stories."
2. You've seen the episodes so many times you can identify the plot within the first 5 to 10 minutes.
Some people doubt your abilities, but you just roll your eyes. You can also tell exactly which detectives are working in SVU based on when the episode takes place. (Munch, Fin, Rollins, Carisi, Stabler, Benson, Cassidy, etc.)
3. You always say you're going to boycott the show after one of your favorite actors leaves but let's be honest... you're still there.
We all freaked out when Elliot left, don't lie. Do you know how many online petitions I thought about signing? At least 6.
4. All of a sudden, you're an expert on the legal system and start throwing out objections during court cases that Casey or Alex might have missed.
Whenever someone has a slight accusatory tone, you go into defense mode. "Your Honor, they are badgering the witness!" You can also recite your Miranda Rights on command... at least those until commercial break.
5. You know how many "celebrities," guest starred on Law & Order: SVU.
Let's start name dropping: Robin Williams, Angela Lansbury, Julia Roberts, Carol Burnett, Jennette McCurdy, Ian Somerhalder, John Ritter, Hayden Panettiere, Hilary Duff, Henry Winkler, Fred Savage, Lea Thompson, Martin Short, Ty Burrell, Norman Reedus, Jennifer Garner... shall I go on?
6. You have a couple of detectives who you wish were actually in a relationship.
I will be rooting for Benson/Stabler until the end. I don't care.
7. You start to prepare for the worst in every situation.
Everyone is evil. They all have their own agendas, and you should trust no one. That is what this show has taught me.
