Makeup is great, it's just not my thing

I just want to start off by saying that I am not bragging in any way; I don't think I'm better than anyone else who wears makeup all the time. I think makeup is awesome, and I think what people can do with it is even more awesome. There are accounts and blogs and YouTube channels completely dedicated to makeup tutorials, and I watch them and am just as mesmerized as everyone else. Why can't I do that? Makeup is great, it's just not my thing. I'm not trying to get anyone else to stop wearing makeup (do you boo boo), I'm just trying to justify my reasons for not wearing makeup, and let everyone know that it's okay to not like or not wear makeup all the time.

So here's seven reasons why I don't wear makeup.

1. I'm not very good at it

This is probably because I don't really practice, and have minimal experience, so it's my fault, really. But I'm about five years behind, so why start now?

2. I have a very strict skin care regimen

Since I was twelve-years-old, I have been seeing a dermatologist for my acne and skin care. I've had acne my whole life, since I was about eleven, and it has just started to clear up in the last two or three years. I have tried countless medications, from oral to topical. I have used multiple face washes and moisturizers. I have tried and failed and failed and then found something that worked for a little while then failed again. It has been an uphill battle full of frustration and patience that will never really go away (full disclosure: I have a huge pimple on my forehead at this very moment). Just last week, I tried to switch to a new, gentler cleanser, and my face resembled a pizza a few days later. It isn't easy, and I know that any time I use a different product on my face, it has the potential to throw off the delicate balance I've got going on. Now I'm not saying that makeup is bad for your skin (because actually, people who wear makeup everyday often have the healthiest skin because they know how to take care of their skin), I'm just saying that I can't wear it very often, or else my skin reacts negatively.

3. Crying/scratching/rubbing/contacts

Even if I do have makeup on, I have zero self-control and end up scratching my cheek or rubbing my eye or adjusting my contact. And then all of my hard work is gone. Well, if you can call spending two minutes to brush on some mascara and dab blush on my cheeks "hard work."

4. I look awful in photos with or without it

Whether it's genetic or my lack of interest, but I have no idea what my angles are. I don't even think I have any good angles. I'm a lost cause.

5. It's a lot of work, and as soon as I get out of college, I'm going to have to wear it every day

Go ahead, call me lazy. But I like getting up thirty minutes before class starts and getting there on time.

6. Taking it off every night is a nightmare

This reason also is specific to myself and my skin type. Many makeup-removing products are oily and clog my pores, which causes my face to break out. Even if I just use it to remove eye makeup, I find a pimple on my nose the next morning, no doubt. Therefore I have to use an oil-free remover, which takes about five times as long to actually remove makeup, and normally doesn't even get everything off. Again, call me lazy. But not removing makeup is bad for your skin and pulling/rubbing your skin too often or too forcefully can cause wrinkles. No thanks.

7. It's what's on the inside that counts, anyways!

That's what I like to tell myself, anyways.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
