Throughout the semester college students struggle with a lot. Whether it be feeling home sick, stressing out over and cramming for exams, or missing out on hanging out with friends due to lack of funds, college students tend to look forward to at least one month out of the semester. What month would that be and why are college students always so ecstatic to see it? Well, it's November, which is turkey month, of course. Here are seven top reasons college students are thankful for Thanksgiving break:

1.First time seeing family all semester

Throughout the semester students from far away become homesick. Thanksgiving is the first real break of the semester for college students. Many students travel thousands of miles to spend time with family and friends they haven't seen since they left for school.

2.Home-cooked meals by family

You eventually get burned out on cafeteria food, and eating out every night can become very costly. Nothing's better than a hot home-cooked meal.

3. A break from school

As soon as the semester starts, college students hit the ground running. Thanksgiving break is a point in the semester when you get a break from being stressed out. On top of class, studying for exams, trying to maintain a social life, and more class, Thanksgiving break for college students is like winning the lottery!

4. Getting to sleep in your own bed

It's nice to be away from home, but sleeping on a twin-sized mattress for months at a time gets old. Nothing's more comfortable than being able to toss and turn in your own bed in the comfort of your own home.

5. Meeting up with friends from high school

What's more exciting than being able to catch up with old friends after a rugged 3 months of college? You'll make friends while away at college, but no one will understand you better than hometown friends. It's a bond that can never be broken!

6. Black Friday shopping

What college student doesn't love to go shopping? During Black Friday there are deals, deals, and more deals! Bargain shopping always comes in handy for college students.

7. Leaving to head back to school

College students can only stand to be home for a certain amount of time. Once the Thanksgiving festivities are over with they are ready to head back to school to be out on their own again.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
