If I had a dollar for every time a friend or family member has asked me if I'm fighting with my roommate yet, I could pay off my student loans. Everyone seems to think that rooming with your best friend is bound to end in this huge, dramatic fight. Yes, I know it does happen. But the way I see it, if you're lucky enough to go to school with someone you've known and trusted for years, they're more than likely going to make a perfect roommate, and here's why:
1) You get to skip the awkward "getting to know each other" phase.
Don't get me wrong, I know there are tons of people that have found some of their closest friends by choosing to have a random roommate. But rooming with your best friend allows you to be comfortable from the first day you move into your school. It's just one less thing you have to worry about during the hectic process of starting college.
2) You know what they like and don't like.
Odds are, you've probably known your best friend for quite some time. By now, you know all of their pet peeves. You know what time they like to go to bed, when they wake up, when they do homework and when they watch Netflix. You've got their schedule down, which makes your life a whole lot easier.
3) You get the best of both worlds: making new friends while having your closest one right by your side.
Putting yourself out there in college is very important, and you're sure to make tons of new friendships that will last a life time. But it's also nice to know that at the end of a bad day, the person who knows you best will be there to take care of you.
4) College is like one giant sleepover.
Remember those nights when you were 12 and you and your friends would eat ungodly amounts of popcorn and chips while watching playing Just Dance and watching TV until 3 a.m.? That's the best explanation I have of rooming with your best friend.
5) No need to wear pants.
You're best friends, you've seen it all.
6) You can borrow (most) things without asking.
You don't feel the need to ask to use their makeup, shampoo, or clothes. Food might be pushing it though.
7) Your favorite person in the world is right across the room.
Rooming with your best friend means you've always got a homework buddy, a late night Taco Bell date, a shoulder to cry on and a partner in crime with you all the time. What could possibly be better than that?
