April is arguably the worst month for college students in regards to schoolwork. It's finals season, which means college students across the country are haphazardly attempting to get their lives in order, cramming information for exams, and scrambling to finish final projects. You'll frequently hear 20-somethings telling their friends they're dropping out, or you'll see them sitting in the library without changing positions for hours at a time.
Quotes have always helped me get through the tough times, and as a college student who's about to enter a stressful period of her undergraduate career, I figured I'd share some quotes that help me when I'm seeking guidance or reassurance.
1. "Sometimes you get the best light from a burning bridge." -- Don Henley
This one's a bit of a Debbie Downer, but its message is powerful. If it feels like your world is falling apart, just remember that even if you do fail, there will be greater opportunities in the future. This is not the end, only the beginning. The struggle is worth the result.
2. "When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change." -- Wayne Dyer
Stuck in a studying slump? Change your perspective. Take a walk outside, breathe in the fresh air and remember why you're here.
3. "You'll turn out ordinary if you're not careful." -- Ann Brashares
If you feel like giving up, remember why you started in the first place. You're not here to be ordinary; you're here to reach your potential. Keep working hard.
4. "Keep your face towards the sunshine and shadows will fall behind you." -- Walt Whitman
Stay positive. Look ahead with an optimistic eye, and all your worries will be small figures in your rearview mirror.
5. "Life is tough, my darling, but so are you." -- Stephanie Bennet-Henry
We've all heard this one before, but it's an important quote to turn to. Find your inner strength and realize that you are strong enough to tackle this obstacle.
6. "It's not the load that breaks you down. It's the way you carry it." -- C.S. Lewis
You are not what has happened to you; you are how you handle it.
7. "The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why." -- Mark Twain
Keep this chapter in your life in perspective. You're putting yourself through this to realize your dreams and goals.
Hang in there, everyone, and remember that the climb is worth the view. Nothing worth achieving is achieved easily.
