Planning The Great American Summer Road Trip

It's time to see your country for what it really is.

As summer draws to a close, we're left to reflect on all the (incredibly boring) things we did this summer and all the plans we wanted to follow through with, but didn't. Maybe it was a vacation to a beach, or maybe you wanted to do some hiking. Whatever it is, us teenagers PROBABLY didn't do it. And since the school year flies by, next summer will be here before you know it. Which is why I'm providing you with these list in order to actually make your plans come true next summer!

1. New York City

Everyone knows New York City: great food, great attractions, great nightlife. No matter who you are, chances are you'll find something to do here. Rockefeller Center, the Empire State Building, and the Statue of Liberty are all popular destinations. Just make sure to grab a piece of pizza after!

2. Niagara Falls

What most people don't know about Niagara Falls is that it's not only a series of waterfalls. Yes, there are a series of waterfalls that you can ride a ferry through or watch from multiple viewing sites, but the strips on both the Canadian and American side have plenty of fun attractions, such as a Haunted House and a wax museum.

3. Disneyland/Disney World

Although these parks were designed for kids, let's be honest: everyone enjoys these. There's something to do for everyone, regardless of age or interest. There's so much to do, you will definitely be busy all day, and might even have to come back! Who wouldn't want all the rides, the food, the endless photo ops, AND a chance to relive their childhood? Disneyland has more to offer than just the stereotypical "castle"- they also have an adventure park! And Disney World has four different attractions: the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and the Animal Kingdom! This makes you feel like you are traveling the world all in one day!

4. Chicago

I may be a bit bias, but Chicago is hands-down the best city. You've got deep-dish pizza, Chicago-style dogs, tourist attractions like the Bean and the Sears Tower (No, I refuse to say Willis), multiple museums, AND a variety of beaches. What other city can say that? No matter what you're looking to do that day, Chicago definitely has it. And more!

5. The Grand Canyon

When someone thinks of the Grand Canyon, they probably think of just a cliff. Little do most people know, there are helicopter rides over the canyon, mule rides, and hiking trails for all ages, all which provide a view you have to see to believe. There's also a skywalk, which puts you over the edge of the canyon! This is a must for any daredevil!

6. Potato Chip Rock

Although this is one of the lesser-known places on this list, I think it's definitely one of the coolest. Only a 45-minute drive from San Diego, this tourist attraction provides an easy, relatively short hike with an amazing view. The end result is you, standing on a terrifyingly-thin rock (hence, the potato chip) that seems as if it can break at any second! Talk about adrenaline!

7. A National Park

Whether it's Yellowstone, Yosemite, or any other one America has to offer, there is always plenty to do and see. You have Old Faithful, Tunnel View, Bridalveil Fall, El Capitan and Half Dome. In addition, Yosemite has a village where you can find shops, restaurants, and museums if outdoorsy stuff isn't your thing.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
