Crazy Backpacks

As summer draws to a close and the start to school creeps closer, the idea of the first day of school is something on every student's mind. What will I wear? What will it be like? Well, since the first day of school is right around the corner (just two days away for me), I thought it would be fun to combine this with some fun gifs from this years 2016 Rio Olympic games. So, here is my rendition of the first day of school in the form of gifs from the Rio games!

1. The Dreaded Wake Up

[rebelmouse-proxy-image https://media.rbl.ms/image?u=%2Ffiles%2F2016%2F08%2F13%2F6360665870638347741584413553_tumblr_oa4mjnDXrb1skuv6vo1_500.gif&ho=https%3A%2F%2Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net&s=190&h=ae92d9ef16c8e20bd05e2efb4f29e7bb09ab8fafab1496bf5ee65d8cd4d2fd37&size=980x&c=4198522331 crop_info="%7B%22image%22%3A%20%22https%3A//media.rbl.ms/image%3Fu%3D%252Ffiles%252F2016%252F08%252F13%252F6360665870638347741584413553_tumblr_oa4mjnDXrb1skuv6vo1_500.gif%26ho%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net%26s%3D190%26h%3Dae92d9ef16c8e20bd05e2efb4f29e7bb09ab8fafab1496bf5ee65d8cd4d2fd37%26size%3D980x%26c%3D4198522331%22%7D" expand=1]

As your alarm goes off, waking you up for that first day of school, I know all you are going to want to do is it snooze and go back to bed. Trust me, I will probably do the same. But eventually you will get the energy to stand up and will most likely feel like you need a nap before your day has even begun due to the changes your sleep cycle goes through from summer to school.

2. The Warm Up

[rebelmouse-proxy-image https://media.rbl.ms/image?u=%2Ffiles%2F2016%2F08%2F13%2F636066584567390095465768701_tumblr_inline_obr9sfZDmx1qgg3qs_500.gif&ho=https%3A%2F%2Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net&s=488&h=c37c43c4a5563a3cc625b82b5afa1ab7b0926ff3d35ae3010672a63e42f753d1&size=980x&c=3114466872 crop_info="%7B%22image%22%3A%20%22https%3A//media.rbl.ms/image%3Fu%3D%252Ffiles%252F2016%252F08%252F13%252F636066584567390095465768701_tumblr_inline_obr9sfZDmx1qgg3qs_500.gif%26ho%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net%26s%3D488%26h%3Dc37c43c4a5563a3cc625b82b5afa1ab7b0926ff3d35ae3010672a63e42f753d1%26size%3D980x%26c%3D3114466872%22%7D" expand=1]

Preparations before arriving to school on that first day are essential. Whether you prepare physically like Chad Le Clos or mentally like Michael Phelps, just be ready. I know for me, the pressure is on the minute I enter school that very first day so make sure you do your warm-ups on your way to school and prepare yourself for action just like any Olympic athlete would.

3. You Got This

[rebelmouse-proxy-image https://media.rbl.ms/image?u=%2Ffiles%2F2016%2F08%2F13%2F636066587528971976-2120139974_tumblr_obqfn3fe431rea2rlo1_r7_540.gif&ho=https%3A%2F%2Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net&s=572&h=29d878f53a5f895c3d2def578a9a08b620112984388dc56dda745878c9c2c9c7&size=980x&c=946070030 crop_info="%7B%22image%22%3A%20%22https%3A//media.rbl.ms/image%3Fu%3D%252Ffiles%252F2016%252F08%252F13%252F636066587528971976-2120139974_tumblr_obqfn3fe431rea2rlo1_r7_540.gif%26ho%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net%26s%3D572%26h%3D29d878f53a5f895c3d2def578a9a08b620112984388dc56dda745878c9c2c9c7%26size%3D980x%26c%3D946070030%22%7D" expand=1]

And if the warm ups weren't enough, a solid pep talk can always do yourself good. You got this-- you will conquer the first day of school! Just like Lori Hernandez killed the bar routine, you will kill the first day of school!

4. The Entrance

[rebelmouse-proxy-image https://media.rbl.ms/image?u=%2Ffiles%2F2016%2F08%2F13%2F636066591520483064-816363439_tumblr_obgtrb0J1u1qjmrjpo1_r1_500.gif&ho=https%3A%2F%2Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net&s=1010&h=b6443e3a3cfce207f6b1572baa939f43435a6847940c2a042a996945c4e51fa5&size=980x&c=742451139 crop_info="%7B%22image%22%3A%20%22https%3A//media.rbl.ms/image%3Fu%3D%252Ffiles%252F2016%252F08%252F13%252F636066591520483064-816363439_tumblr_obgtrb0J1u1qjmrjpo1_r1_500.gif%26ho%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net%26s%3D1010%26h%3Db6443e3a3cfce207f6b1572baa939f43435a6847940c2a042a996945c4e51fa5%26size%3D980x%26c%3D742451139%22%7D" expand=1]

As you enter school on that first day sporting your new backpack, outfit (I wear a uniform so this sadly doesn't apply), and sneakers, you will feel like a model walking down the runway. Strut your stuff like Giselle Bündchen down that hallway to show everyone who is ready for the new school year.

5. The Reunion

[rebelmouse-proxy-image https://media.rbl.ms/image?u=%2Ffiles%2F2016%2F08%2F13%2F6360666020159678671406433108_tumblr_obm43djcAT1v0yoyyo1_500.gif&ho=https%3A%2F%2Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net&s=815&h=4d9465697c094df3a69d2289898885f5488444e72fa5cb48d963842196b359cd&size=980x&c=3382020858 crop_info="%7B%22image%22%3A%20%22https%3A//media.rbl.ms/image%3Fu%3D%252Ffiles%252F2016%252F08%252F13%252F6360666020159678671406433108_tumblr_obm43djcAT1v0yoyyo1_500.gif%26ho%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net%26s%3D815%26h%3D4d9465697c094df3a69d2289898885f5488444e72fa5cb48d963842196b359cd%26size%3D980x%26c%3D3382020858%22%7D" expand=1]

As you spot your friends across the quad, that feeling of extreme excitement hits. This is the reason you are excited to be back-- spending every waking moment with your best friends in the entire world. Summer has pulled each and every one of you in a thousand different directions and the school year is your chance to spend some quality time together.

6. The School Day Itself

[rebelmouse-proxy-image https://media.rbl.ms/image?u=%2Ffiles%2F2016%2F08%2F13%2F6360666046893804461464415657_tumblr_oblyi40Ihq1s2dh77o3_500.gif&ho=https%3A%2F%2Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net&s=923&h=d886aa08bf2d50b96599832e1147f85cc4f5007bb1220bb09280780e9d85c3aa&size=980x&c=1594517395 crop_info="%7B%22image%22%3A%20%22https%3A//media.rbl.ms/image%3Fu%3D%252Ffiles%252F2016%252F08%252F13%252F6360666046893804461464415657_tumblr_oblyi40Ihq1s2dh77o3_500.gif%26ho%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net%26s%3D923%26h%3Dd886aa08bf2d50b96599832e1147f85cc4f5007bb1220bb09280780e9d85c3aa%26size%3D980x%26c%3D1594517395%22%7D" expand=1]

The rest of your day most likely consists of listening to a lot of rules, expectations from each teacher, and class requirements. But, it is also full of some surprises as well, like finding out who is in each one of your classes. Although with social media and texting you probably have a general idea, but seeing your classes that first day is the real deal.

7. The End, For Today

[rebelmouse-proxy-image https://media.rbl.ms/image?u=%2Ffiles%2F2016%2F08%2F13%2F636066588575900929-800061281_tumblr_obnx5rBKFd1ref340o1_500.gif&ho=https%3A%2F%2Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net&s=765&h=901f7adbd3440e23dd8a5431725b478131a2238d809b24b06e06935c3ff6b90d&size=980x&c=2702074291 crop_info="%7B%22image%22%3A%20%22https%3A//media.rbl.ms/image%3Fu%3D%252Ffiles%252F2016%252F08%252F13%252F636066588575900929-800061281_tumblr_obnx5rBKFd1ref340o1_500.gif%26ho%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net%26s%3D765%26h%3D901f7adbd3440e23dd8a5431725b478131a2238d809b24b06e06935c3ff6b90d%26size%3D980x%26c%3D2702074291%22%7D" expand=1]

As the end to your first day of school draws to a close, you will feel relieved that this dreaded day has ended, but you must come back again the next day. And the day after that. OK, well at least you got through today and you did it just like an Olympic champ-- you deserves a gold medal!

What If The U.N. Actually United The Nations?

This is me taking a break from being cynical and imagining how the world could be one day.

By now, people are probably sick of hearing me talk about myself, so I’m changing it up this week. In keeping with the subject of my J-Term class, I’m asking myself a political what-if question. What if we could create a sovereign global government firmly grounded in justice that could actually adjudicate Earth’s many disparate nation-states into one unified world government?

The Basics Of The United Nations

As the General Assembly convenes, here is the United Nations 101

For an organization that literally unites the nations, it amazes me how little is taught about the United Nations in schools, or at least where I went to school. It wasn't until I went to college and got a higher education that I learned the basics of the United Nations. I believe that every American should know at least the basics of what the United Nations does, especially since our country is one of the 5 permanent members. So here are the main "organs" of the United Nations.
