Have you ever just looked at Netflix in blank wonder as you decide what to watch next?
Now I know from experience that not everyone loves the idea of people recommending random movies to strangers. I can think of many times when I have just wanted to watch what I wanna watch and be done with it. Trust me, I get it. But as a person that wants to expand her movie horizons, I have just the stuff that you will want to watch, something for the adventurist in you. I love movies that make you think about it after, movies that make you cry after you have thought about it for awhile. I promise to you that these movies will be dramatic, comedic, thought-provoking, and will make you grateful that Netflix exists in the first place.
1. The Lovely Bones
I read this book back in high school, about Susy Salmon, a 14-year-old girl who was murdered in the 1970's in her own neighborhood and is transported to the "in-between" and has to bear watching her family grieve and live on without her. This one is thought-provoking and to this day I still think about how much I miss watching it.
2. Stranger Things
I know this isn't a movie, but I have got to say that when it comes to binge-watching T.V. shows, this one gave off an interesting vibe. I watched the first episode and thought I couldn't finish because I am typically not into syfi type shows. A few weeks went by and it grew increasingly obvious that everyone loved it and I was one of those people who just slid it to the side. I can promise you this show will not be your typical nerd fest, and I say that with the highest regards, because I am a nerd myself, so I can say that.
3. Amanda Knox
I recently watched this documentary about the story of Amanda Knox, American college student dating Italian man in Italy, whose roommate was murdered without her being there. She was wrongly accused of the crime and spend years in jail trying to free herself. It is a great depiction of the real life story that captured the nations interest.
4. The Babadook
Horror movies are my favorite and I think this one is pretty great when it comes to that. It is set in Australia with a woman and her son who find a book about a mysterious and sinister monster man who haunts you till you die. Anything set in a book that people read, you know it's gonna be scary as hell. But the production value on this is impeccable. It is more than a slasher, as it has nothing to do with that. I like movies that play on suspense.
5. American Beauty
Alright House of Cards fans, Kevin Spacey in his younger days plays this suburban husband with a daughter and wife who is tired of the normal, boring life. So when a neighbor moves in next door, things get kind of messy and interesting with him and this neighbor that sets a trend. This movie is disturbingly good. I showed this to my boyfriend who loves HOC and he thought this movie was one of the best he's seen.
6. Atonement
This is for all the war movie/romance movie lovers out there. Based on the book, about two lovers who are taken away from each other when a scandal arose in the perfect stew of war and romance. Too much to explain, but this isn't something you wouldn't want to impress your friends with on movie night. They will be blown away.
7. Heathers
Hey Stranger Things fans! This movie is iconic. I love it. The end.
