So, I originally wanted to be a veterinarian because I liked animals more than people. Here I am now, slaving away as an assistant to the public, where you go for help, the person who is supposed to know the answer to everything, a customer service representative. No matter if it's a restaurant, a pharmacy, or in the mall, there is always a lesson to be learned in the world of customer service.
The customer is always right, even when they're not. You develop a new repertoire of vocabulary, mostly consisting of "I understand, but" or "You're right, it's just".
Know when to put others before yourself. Just because you want a break, so you can sit down after working six hours, doesn't mean you leave your responsibilities in the hands of others.
Time is always of the essence. Go out of your way to make people happy and be the best version of yourself. That 12 hour shift is nothing! Okay, it sucks either way, but time flies when you're busy!
Love your life. Even if you've been yelled at three times, cussed out, hung up on and threatened, do not let how you feel affect your work. Easier said than done, yes, but the next guy in line didn't do anything to you...yet.
You never know what someone is going through. There's never an excuse for being an a$, but you never know what's going on in someone's life. Take bad attitudes in stride and kill them with kindness. Be the light in their day.
Patience is a virtue! Oh, you close at nine? Thank goodness we got here to fill eight prescriptions at 8:59! Everyone deserves equal service, regardless of punctuality!
Appreciate awesomeness. While you'll serve your fair share of displeasing people, you will gain appreciation for the awesome people in the world and how they can turn your day around! Not every customer will be a cute grandpa that says "hot diggity" when you tell him his total is $2.33, but we can appreciate those who do. Now try to be one of those awesome people yourself!
Appreciate your own awesomeness and share it with others. All in all, working in customer service teaches you humility, respect, patience and how to be a smart and appreciative consumer! Don't forget that!
