We are the future, and we must make sure that this future is a good one. While many millennials today are (understandably) distracted with the events of the present, it is imperative to consider the consequences of our actions today.
1. The Presidential Election
On November 8th, 2016, the 58th U.S. Presidential Election will take place. For many millennials, this will be their first opportunity to vote--the first time they will have their voice heard. This election could be the first time the U.S. elects a female President, or, depending on the results of the primaries, the first time we have a clown like Donald Trump as a nominee. Regardless, this election will be determine who directs our country for the next four, or possibly eight, years. During this time, millennials will most likely begin their lives as independent citizens, making the results of this election extremely important. Not paying attention would be ignorant, to say the least.
2. Having a positive presence on social media
Growing up in a technologically driven society has made millennials more or less dependent on social media. Its presence has no doubt improved the quality of our lives. With the widespread use of social media came the ease of communication, immediate news updates, instantaneous spread of information (fun fact: social media is the number one fastest way to spread information available), and the ability to share ideas and connect with those who share similar ideas. But, as there is with everything, with the positives come the negatives of social media. One of the major issues that came with the increase in usage is cyberbullying. This negative effect not only hurts the person being bullied but also the bully because, as many tend to forget, everything put on the internet is there forever. Always make sure that you don't post anything that could hurt you later in life. Recently, employers have begun to sift through the social media accounts of potential employers, searching for any and all negative posts.
3. Decreasing bee population
Within the last few years, the honey bee population has begun rapidly decreasing. Bee-lieve it or not, these black and yellow insects play a vital role in the survival of the human race, giving up food and maintain our ecosystem. If that isn't a good enough reason, please check out this article which lists seven ways honey bees directly affect the human race.
4. History
History repeats itself.
5. Your ecological footprint
Believe me, it's a lot worse than you think. If you haven't already, you (and everyone you know) should make time to check it out. Global warming is a lot more than just a few the average temperature rising a few degrees. The Earth is dying at an increasing pace due to the rapid industrialization of the last few decades. And, while it's easy to ignore the effects now, us millennials are the ones who are going to feel and have to deal with it later on.
I'm not saying you should drastically change your way of life, but maybe take small measures to decrease your ecological footprint. If everyone makes a small change, the impact will be noticeable.
6. How to manage your finances
Soon you're going to be living on your own--knowing how to manage your finances so you can eat from one day to the next is extremely important.
For a better tomorrow.
