1. Grace and Frankie
This weekend pick up a bottle of wine, throw in a frozen pizza, and watch this show with your bestie. Jane Fonda is as hilarious as ever as she figures out (and rocks) life as a newly single lady in her 70s. And honestly...let's talk about for a sec here how amazing she looks for her age?!
2. Rita
This is one of my favorite series that’s an absolute *hidden* treasure on Netflix. Rita is filmed in Denmark and Netflix (smartly) picked it up to share with the rest of the world. Rita shows that the best teachers and moms are unconventional and break the mold to make an impact on their students and family.
3. Alias
I used to stay up WAY past my bedtime on Sunday nights to watch Jennifer Garner kick some ass in this action packed series. Let's just say we can thank Alias for Homeland. In a world full of Jason Bourne, male-dominated secret agent shows this series is so incredibly progressive for the time it aired (early 2000s!).
4. Don’t Trust the B---- in Apt 23
I think we can all agree this show NEEDS to come back to cable TV. Krysten Ritter is the b---- that lives in Apt. 23 and she takes s*** from no one. I think we can all take a lesson from her confidence and self-love. What I dig about this series is it celebrates the power of a friendship between ladies that are so different. Through their NY shenanigans you see Chloe and June rub off on one another for the better.
5. Melissa and Joey
WHO DOESN’T LOVE MELISSA JOAN HART?! Similar to Alias I stayed up late on Fridays in my early years to watch Sabrina the Teenage Witch make her way through high school with Salem and her perfectly crazy aunts. AND WHO DOESN’T LOVE JOEY LAWRENCE?! All you need to know is that Melissa JH is the breadwinner in this comedy series.
6. Scandal
I listened to Kerry Washington speak at an Obama ‘08 rally back in the day and I’ve admired her as an activist and actor every since. While it’s a struggle to watch Olivia Pope’s obsession with the show's leading man, I think we can all agree we've fallen in love this deep with the wrong person at the wrong time. Despite the dramas that come with this out-of-the-box relationship, Olivia Pope keeps calm, cool, and kicks some DC ass. Being a hopeless romantic doesn't mean your professional life needs to suffer.
7. Marvel’s Jessica Jones
You don’t need to be a comic book reader to love this series. Krysten Ritter is a complete badass in this series and viewers see firsthand the affects of PTSD. Can you tell I love K Ritter? All you need to know is that if you know any STRONG lady suffering from PTSD, this sci-fri helps breakdown the complexity that comes with recovery.
