Who doesn't love a good quote? Especially if it's inspirational, giving you a sense of pride, a drive to fight stronger, and a life motto?

Sure, there are real-life people who have said many inspirational quotes. But more often than not, many of these quotes were said by fictional people―characters from TV shows and movies.

Social media outlets like Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr, and the like have made these quotes pretty big on the internet. It’s not without justification though; much like how our role models shape the kind of person we want to be as time goes on.

Here are seven quotes that were given to us by inspirational fictional characters:

1. "Never accept the world as it appears to be, dare to see it for what it could be." -Dr. Harold Winston, from the video game "Overwatch"

Overwatch took the world by storm, thanks to its diverse heroes (for Blizzard fans, yes, pun intended), the colorful world, and the hopeful, empowering tone. As some of you know, the Overwatch development team releases animated shorts; progressing the game's lore as well as showing off amazing cinematics. And it was in the short "Recall", that Dr. Harold Winston, the father figure of everyone's favorite scientist gorilla Winston said the quote above. If there's something you don't like about the world, work to change it.

2. "Knowledge can only take you so far. It is up to you to take the first step." -Professor Ozpin, from the web series "RWBY"

I'm cheating a bit as this is the last tidbit of Ozpin's speech but it still counts. Also, that edit is actually kind of perfect. Monty Oum's legacy lives on in his creation, the web series "RWBY". Just prior to initiation, Professor Ozpin addresses the freshman students of his school with a speech. The end makes you realize something: you can know something better than anyone, but unless you can apply it somehow it's useless. And no one is going to show you how; You alone must take the first step.

3. "Your past doesn’t define who you are. It just gives you the starting point of who you’re going to be." -Agent Carolina, from the web series "Red Vs. Blue"

This quote has appeared in some of my past articles, with good reason. Season 10 of "Red Vs. Blue", RoosterTeeth's most well-known web series (at least until RWBY's debut) and the longest running web series period, dealt with two of its central characters dealing with their pasts; either stop chasing their ghosts or see it to the end regardless of the consequences. The quote above shows how dangerous living in the past can be. It says that everyone has a past they regret but you don't have to forget it, but you must learn to live with it and move forward.

4. "Life doesn’t give us purpose. We give life purpose. -Barry Allen aka The Flash, from the comic "Blackest Night", #8

In our modern day, superheroes can make us nostalgic, embody our fantasies, challenge our perceptions, or just make a lot of money for Disney and Warner Bros. For DC, however, one of their most inspirational quotes comes from the Scarlet Speedster, Flash (As to why he's blue in the picture above, long story short, he's temporarily a Blue Lantern). You give your life a purpose, not the other way around. It goes to show how only you control your life, and you must do all in your power if you want your life to mean something.

5. "(Time changes everything)That’s what people say, it’s not true. Doing things changes things. Not doing things leaves things exactly as they were." -Dr. Gregory House, from the TV series "House"

Medical dramas are a tricky thing. Some give feels and tears, others tell nothing but stories, and some involve a daydreaming intern. "House", often called a medical version of Sherlock Holmes, is a bit different. Unlike Dr. McDreamy or J.D. Dorian, House is a genius―a very snarky genius. But despite all that, he has one quote that actually puts the 'time changes everything' philosophy in a different light. Time doesn't fix, it just leave it be. You want something fixed? Do it yourself.

6. "Sometimes life is like this dark tunnel, you can’t always see the light at the end of the tunnel, but if you just keep moving, you will come to a better place." -Uncle Iroh, from the animated series "Avatar: The Last Airbender"

One of Nickelodeon's premiere series was part of many people's childhoods. One element of the show that is undeniably memorable is Zuko's uncle, Iroh; always with a cup of tea and some wisdom. The quote above symbolizes the struggle of life and the dark days that come with it. Dark days come to everyone, but like the metaphor of the tunnel; you can prevail, and when you do, you'll emerge to the light stronger and wiser.

7. "Patience yields focus." -Takeshi “Shiro” Shirogane, from the animated series "Voltron: Legendary Defender"

This old 80's series got revived thanks to the crew of the Avatar franchise. Shiro, the pilot of the Black Lion and leader of the Voltron Paladins, tells this quote to Keith, the hot-headed Red Lion pilot. While the context is different (that's the key point; context), when applied to life, this can be quite the impact. Everyone wants a goal, but if you just rush you'll be confused and the road is chaotic. If you move a bit slower and stay patient, you'll be more focused and the road will be much clearer.

These quotes helped me through some of my darker and more vulnerable moments. And yes, everyone's dark days are different from mine and vice versa, but I'd like to believe these quotes can help you as much they did for me.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
