7 Feelings Every Ball State Girl Loves
Marisa Sobotka

Every Ball State girl understands the struggle, whether it's waking up for an early class, walking all the way to Cooper or accidentally getting on the blue loop bus. We've all been through it. While these things may cause some momentary stress, we have to remember what we love about our school. Funcie has the almighty Puertas, rowdy tailgates, Taco Bell on campus and so much more. It might not always be easy, but us BSU girls not only make it work, but have a good time doing it. Ball State makes us feel these seven things that make it all so worth it.

1. Waking up to an email that your 8 a.m. class is cancelled.

We all know that waking up to get ready for any class earlier than noon is nearly impossible. Every day is bum day and we all have definitely accepted that. While it is a struggle, we keep it together and power through it; but there are times when the heavens open up and you read an email saying that class is cancelled. This feeling of pure ecstasy lasts as we pull our blankets back up and snooze — for good.

2. Finding out that you don’t need the textbook for a course.

While a fresh start with new classes is exciting, the one moment every college girl dreads is finding out the hefty price tag on a text book that they will probably use as a folder for loose papers. So it’s no surprise that one of the best feelings known to mankind is being told by a professor that the class does not require a textbook.

3. Coming home to your roommates after a rough day.

There are just some days where everything that could possibly go wrong does. These are the days that you thank the lord that you have you best friends to go home to and vent all night. These are the ladies that order a pizza, put a movie on and listen to you complain about that horrible professor for hours.

4. When the Starbucks on campus spells your name right.

We all know what it is like to spend an entire night studying for that big exam and waking up knowing that caffeine is the only pick-me-up. We need coffee running through our veins or taking on the day is just not possible. There is no better feeling than going to Starbucks and having your favorite barista know your name and order!

5. The rush you feel when Cousin Vinny’s is at your door.

We have all experienced a long night out that consisted of only dreaming about the large pizza and side of bread sticks you will order later. Nothing compares to the moment when the pizza delivery boy rings the doorbell to deliver that cheesy goodness, which will be devoured minutes later.

6. The first tailgate of the season.

Every college girl loves tailgates. Who wouldn’t love an excuse to get dressed up from head to toe and show your Ball State pride? There is something about the atmosphere of students chanting, hot dogs roasting and drinks being passed that make anyone buzz with happiness.

7. Finding the perfect table at Bracken.

Let’s face it - we all know the struggle of trying to find the perfect secluded table at Bracken. It seems as though it is packed all 24 hours of the day and sometimes the hunt for a table feels like a never-ending maze. Once you have found a table, it is hard to even know where you have ended up in the library, but alas you have found the Holy Grail. Time to set up shop (and probably watch Netflix).

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
