I'm sure it isn't too hard to think of all the pros that come with having a best friend. The easy pros would be to always have someone to talk to, to always have a shoulder to lean on, and blah blah blah! But have you ever thought about the cons of having a best friend? I did, and here are some of them.
1. Talking about nothing.
You stay up pretty late, talking to your best friend about all of the school work you have to do, but end up doing it at the last minute. It seems so easy to become engulfed in a conversation with someone you have so much chemistry with. You and your best friend could talk until 11 P.M. about how many assignments you have that are due at midnight.
Me: I have an article due tonight. Plus an online quiz to take and I have to study!
Friend: Wow! What's your article about?
Me: Let me tell you about it. *sits with friend and talks about everything except the article*
2. You both have similar taste in style.
Sometimes, you have to be the bigger person and tell your friend how amazing they look in that shirt you've been eyeing since you walked into the store. However, you could also go with your first instinct to rip it off of their body and run away frantically.
Me: This shirt would look great with my costume right?
Friend: Yeah, looks great...*fights urge to bash me across the head to retrieve the cute top*
3. Forgetting that not everyone accepts your peculiar ways.
Commonly, close friends are used to the strange ways of one another. Others, not so much.
Me: Remember John?
Friend: Who?
Me: John! The guy I told to go to an alley and die.
Friend: *gasps in disbelief* The alley?!
Random person: *frantically dials 911*
4. Not everyone speaks BFF-anese.
As your friendship progresses, your repertoire of inside jokes expands. Your esoteric comments and outbursts tend to lead to the looks of confusion on the faces of others.
Friend: Hey, will you take me to the ice cream shop?
Me: Why, so you can just go look at it?
Friend: Exactly!
5. Volunteering your friend without their knowledge.
Frequently being around your best friend causes you to make assumptions about what they will and will not do. This includes volunteering their time for a task you do not want to do. This also includes volunteering their time for a task that you do not want to do alone. You spend so much time together that you easily forget that they may have other plans that do not involve you (crazy right?).
Person: Are you free to help me move my refrigerator up the stairs?
Friend: No, not at the moment. But my friend is! Here's her number!
6. You are your best friend's keeper.
Like a parent with a small child, you are expected to know the whereabouts of your best friend at any given moment.
Person: Hey, where's your friend?
Me:
7. Being mistaken for your best friend.
Of course ,you don't mind being mistaken for someone that you think is the most awesome being on the planet. However, it can be quite annoying to be constantly called by someone else's name. You have your own identity!
Person: Hey Logan! I like your afro!
Me:
Although these things can be slightly irritating, knowing that you can be the strangest, most manner-less human being alive and still have someone that sticks by your side makes it all worth it.
