Trends in all aspects of our lives are constantly being made, reimagined, and consumed. And somehow, the ones you're exposed to in your childhood tend to be the most impressionable. So why not take a trip down memory lane?
Here are a few childhood fads you may have forgotten:
- Silly Bandz
These were all the rage when I was in 5th grade. You could buy different sets, kids would trade their animal shaped rubber bands on the playground and wear them in stacks on their arms. When you think about it, you couldn't really do anything with them besides wear or look at them, but they were so incredibly popular I guess that didn't matter. - Tamagotchi
Ok, I have to admit I never actually owned one of these, but my neighbor did and sometimes I would babysit it so that basically counts. Owning a Tamagotchi seemed kind of stressful though; it's a lot of responsibility to handle at such a young age. - Club Penguin
Honestly, I went on Club Penguin a few months ago and it's still fun. Whether we were collecting puffles or meeting a friend at the Ski Lodge, going online and chatting to other kids seemed like such a cool thing to do. - Webkinz
I was incredibly into Webkinz. Probably more than the average kid, although I know they were crazy popular (I remember when stores around me were sold out of Webkinz, it was a dark time.) My friends and I would collect them, and buy some together so we would have joint custody. You got a web game and a stuffed animal all in one, what could be better? - Abercrombie/Hollister/Aeropastale
So many fashion decisions in middle school were made in these stores. Shirts and sweatshirts with the brand smack dab in the middle were definitely the go-to. Once I owned just one shirt from these brands, I felt like I had made it. - Sims
It is so easy to spend hours on this game. My friends and I would create virtual versions of our families and take care to match every detail of their face, personality and clothing. Plus, I always felt like a hacker when we used the cheat codes. - Slap Bracelets
Right now I want to clean out my bedroom just so I can find my old slap bracelets. These were so great, especially in class because if we were bored, our accessory just became a toy. They came in funky patterns, were always a prize at arcades and were pretty much the best things ever.
Of course, everyone's childhood was different, but the fact that so many of our lives were touched by similar trends is pretty cool if you think about it.
