14 Middle School Trends Of The Early 2000s

Things we are all guilty of doing in middle school.

These are a few of the trends I remember embracing in middle school. *Cringe*.

1. Polo Shirts

I felt like the classiest chick out there when I wore my polo shirts. I don't know if I ever went so far as to pop the collar, but the thought was there.

2. Soffe Shorts

I owned innumerable colors of Soffe shorts. They were perfect for so many activities. They were only made cooler by rolling the waistband to make them shorter.

3. Wearing Skirts Over Jeans

Let's be honest, we have all tried this trend at least once.

4. Floaties

I really don't know why anyone thought these were cute. But hey, they do float in the pool!

5. Sleeve Ties

I legitimately felt like the coolest kid out there at soccer practice with these things on. I may have even carried the trend outside of sportswear to the real world.

6. Sun In and Lemon Juice

I don't think lemon juice actually did anything in my hair, but it was better than the carrot shade I would get from using Sun In!

7. Juke, Razor, or Chocolate

These were the iPhones of the 2000s. I had my Chocolate in lime green because I was a rebel.

8. Hollister Bags as Book Covers.

I always enjoyed putting the hot shirtless men on the Hollister bags on my History books (and hoping I wouldn't get in trouble for it).

9. Star, Flower, Heart Jewelry

These three designs were the classic among my jewelry in middle school.

10. Trapper Keepers

The best time of year was when I got to pick out a brand new, GIANT Trapper Keeper to lug around at school.

11. Printing Out AIM Conversations

I remember printing out my AIM conversations with boys to show my friends the next day at school. This is the old school method of screen-shotting texts.

12. Art Stuff

The Art Stuff roll-on body glitter from Bath & Body Works was my jam. It kept me smelling like candy and shining like a disco ball throughout the school day.

13. Braces Bands

The only good part about going to the orthodontist was getting to show these babies off afterwards. I remember never wanting green because it would look like I had spinach in my teeth.

14. Link Charm Bracelets

The most painful hair ripping bracelets I have ever worn.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
