Bored but also on a strict budget? Lucky for you, New Jersey has a lot to offer in the way of cheap and fun things to take advantage of this summer.
1. Manasquan Reservoir (Howell).
This park offers trails that are up to five miles long around the reservoir. In addition to that, during the summer you can rent a single or two-person kayak for the day and practice your rowing skills.
2. Broad Street Dough Co. (Oakhurst).
If you're looking for a sweet cheap treat, these gourmet donuts are a promise to hit to the spot.
3. Princeton.
The town of Princeton is a great place to spend the day. There are many different shops and restaurants, and the Princeton campus is beautiful. Princeton can be a cheap day trip by just perusing the town and eating lunch in a small cafe.
4. Delaware Water Gap (Bushkill, Penn.).
Located on the boarder of New Jersey and Pennsylvania, the Delaware Water Gap has over 100 miles worth of trails which are completely free to hike. If you want a little more than just hiking you can also go white water rafting here.
5. Turtle Back Zoo (West Orange).
As the number one zoo in New Jersey, animal attractions aren't the only thing offered here. Zip-lining and a tree top adventure course is also a main attraction. For only $33 you can zip line and explore an adventure course in the trees!
6. Rutgers Gardens (New Brunswick).
The Rutgers Gardens has many different educational activities throughout the summer to learn about sustainability and the earth. In addition to that, every Friday throughout the summer a Farmers Market is hosted here.
7. Jenkinson's Boardwalk (Point Pleasant Beach).
A night on the boardwalk can always be a free and fun time. Jenkinson's also hosts fireworks every Thursday on the beach throughout the summer until September 3rd.
