Soccer is a growing sport in America, but has been popular in the rest of the world for years. When you play soccer for 13 years like I have, there a few characteristics you start to have. Many people say that all soccer players look the same, I don't know how true this is, but everyone can always tell that I play soccer so it must be true. So here are seven characteristics of the all-American soccer girl.
1. Thighs for days
When you play soccer and you're constantly running, it is inevitable that you start to gain major thigh muscles. Many types of research in fact state that a soccer player can run up to eight miles in a single game. Eight miles 3 to 4 times a week will definitely give anyone major muscles.
2. Blood, Blood, and more Blood
Soccer is actually a very brutal sport, it is known for causing major injuries. If you play soccer and you don't have bad knees because of it, consider yourself the lucky one. Aside from knee injuries, soccer players often battle each other which can lead to being "cleated." This occurs when someone takes their cleat and hits a body part on full impact it usually occurs at the leg, it is so painful and can definitely draw blood.
3. Massage me, PLEASE!
It is not uncommon for soccer players to want a full on spa day after a game or tournament. When the game is over you can literally feel every muscle crying for help; it is a pain like no other.
4. Man, I hope the nail lady doesn't judge me.
Unfortunately, it's the sad truth that playing soccer gives you some pretty ugly feet. Either you get blisters on your feet, calluses, or your toe nails get bruised. Sadly all of these things can make trips to the nail salon highly uncomfortable when the nail lady says "Do you play soccer, because you've got a bruise on your toe nail!"
5. Those tan lines though....
Every soccer player definitely struggles with tan lines. Whether it is the classic farmers tan or the all amazing knee tan, you can bet it looks mighty awkward in a dress. Unfortunately, the tan lines are inevitable; there is no getting rid of them.
6. Chest traps should be illegal.
As a female soccer player, chest traps are one of those things that are only done if absolutely necessary. The chest traps have got to be the absolute most painful thing in soccer hands down.
7. Wait, there are more bras than just a sports bra?
Being in soccer you almost never get the chance to wear normal bras. Honestly, there is never a perfect sports bra, and you are constantly searching for that perfect bra; it just doesn't exist. However, ultimately sports bras become your best friend, and your number one wardrobe piece.
