1. Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights (2004)
IMDb rating: 6.0/10
Sure, it doesn't compare to the original. But that doesn't mean it isn't good in its own right! Set in Cuba during the revolution, Katey Miller (Romola Garai) moves to Havana from America with her family. She meets waiter Javier Suarez (Diego Luna), and they enter a Latin Ballroom Contest together. The music is great, the dancing is provocative, and Katey and Javier have great chemistry – you'll have the time of your life watching this spinoff.
2. Patch Adams (1998)
IMDb rating: 6.6/10
Robin Williams is Patch Adams in this movie based on the life of Dr. Hunter "Patch" Adams. He believes that laughter and having a good sense of humor are key components of the healing process, but the medical community disagrees. While the film is funny, it's also moving and dramatic – especially when it comes to the tragic love story between Adams and Carin (Monica Potter). The role is perfect for Williams. You'll laugh, you'll cry, and you'll want to watch it time and time again.
3. Uptown Girls (2003)
IMDb rating: 6.1/10
Molly (Brittany Murphy) loses all of her money and is forced to get a job as the nanny of a young girl named Ray (Dakota Fanning). Ray's mom is a neglectful workaholic and her dad is terminally ill, so Ray is distrustful and far more mature than a young girl should have to be. It's tough at first, but Molly breaks down Ray's walls. The film is charming, has strong feminist themes, and addresses serious issues like child neglect, death, and responsibility. Plus, you can't help but sing along to "Sheets of Egyptian Cotton."
4. Wild Things (1998)
IMDb rating: 6.5/10
This sexy, trashy thriller takes place in Florida (where else?) and is filled with twists and turns. High-school guidance counselor Sam Lombardo (Matt Dillon) is accused of rape by two students, Suzie (Neve Campbell) and Kelly (Denise Richards). Detective Ray (Kevin Bacon) suspects that there's more to this case than meets the eye. Everyone in the film is incredibly good-looking, and you'll have a lot of fun trying to figure out the whole story.
5. Palo Alto (2013)
IMDb rating: 6.3/10
There are some big names attached to this project, including director Gia Coppola (the granddaughter of legend Francis Ford Coppola) and James Franco, who wrote the book of short stories that the film is based on. April (Emma Roberts) has a crush on her soccer coach Mr. B (Franco) but she also has feelings for her close friend Teddy (Jack Kilmer). The plot is pretty empty, and basically follows angsty teenagers leading hedonistic lifestyles, but it's reminiscent of "The Virgin Suicides" and it has a great soundtrack.
6. 27 Dresses (2008)
IMDb rating: 6.1/10
Katherine Heigl's career hasn't been the same since she left Grey's Anatomy, but amongst her many flops I can say that this one is severely underrated. Kevin Doyle (James Mardsen) is secretly the writer of the local newspaper's "Commitments" section. Jane (Katherine Heigl) has been a bridesmaid in 27 weddings, and when Kevin discovers this he befriends her in order to secretly write a feature piece on her. He falls for her and it's all fairly predictable, but you'll be pleasantly surprised by how funny and sweet this chick flick is.
7. Top Gun
IMDb rating: 6.8/10
Everything about this movie oozes cheese, and it aged so poorly and is so overtly 80's, but that's what makes it so great. Set at the United States Navy's elite fighter weapons school, The suggestive homoerotic undertones, the poor chemistry between Tom Cruise and Kelly McGillis, and the 80's soundtrack make "Top Gun" a hilarious film to watch late at night with your friends.
