6 Signs You Were A Cheerleader In High School

Ahh, high school. It was the best of times; it was the worst of times. But if you were a cheerleader, it probably wasn't the latter. Football games, pep rallies, and endless attention from the football players...it was the life. Then, you graduate and start college, and the glory days are over. But if you're like me and join a sorority, you'll most definitely become sisters with at least one girl who shares your pain. We're actually pretty easy to spot.

1. It's a clap not a clasp.

During chapter cheers, door songs, etc., we're the ones instructing everyone on the difference between a clap and a clasp and how to execute them properly. Nothing looks worse than floppy wrists or half the chapter clapping and the other half clasping. And although others may not hear it, there is a sound difference.

2. Ready? OK!

Those girls in the crafty sorority pictures and videos doing the jumps, tumbling, and basic stunting? Yeah, that's us. Cheering is in our blood, so when we get the chance to break out our skills, we're absolutely going to take it.

3. 5, 6, 7, 8...

We count everything out. Everything. Giving a sister a boost to reach that top shelf? Count it out. Tossing someone your phone or pen or anything really? 5, 6, 7, 8...

4. Jazz Hands!

Those choreographed dances for fraternity competitions? We most likely created them. Given our history, why wouldn't you ask us to?

5. Little Sally Walker

Put us in a circle and you know the first thing we're going to do (or have the urge to do)? "Little Sally Walker walkin' down the street" *clap clap*

6. Peel Banana!

Don't put us in charge of games. It will inevitably end in Ships and Sailors (or whatever your squad called it). But who doesn't want to run back and forth until you're dizzy and pretend you're Rose from Titanic?

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
