Who doesn't love sing-alongs and costumes?

On January 28th, me and two of my friends made our way to New York City for the Second Annual BroadwayCon. “What is BroadwayCon?” you may ask. It is, in fact, the best weekend of the year! For three days, theater nerds from all over the country – nay, the WORLD – gather to share their love of theater in one building. We get the chance to meet our heroes, dress up as our dream roles, and feel connected to the other weirdos who love what we love.

We dressed up as Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812 as a tribute to our favorite show of all time. This was my first time going to BroadwayCon and here are my thoughts.

1. Wow, it’s cold out here.

2. At least it’s not literally a weather emergency this year.

3. Oh, look! Heathers!

4. And more Heathers!

5. I think that Heather Chandler is twelve…

6. Wait… did that girl MAKE that Glinda ball gown?

7. I should have gotten a Gold Pass. I want a tote bag.

8. Can we go into the Marketplace yet?

9. The line for the Mainstage is so long…

10. We can go inside!

11. Wow, there are a lot of people here!

12. Look! The Playbill booth!

13. You want to take our picture? Okay!

14. You like our costumes? Thank you!

15. Everyone is so nice!

16. Samuel French! Please publish me!

17. Should I sing a song at the Playbill booth…?

18. No, I’d rather go look around.

19. Drama Bookshop! You’re here!

20. Who is singing right now?

21. More Heathers cosplayers.

22. Wow, that girl’s Playbill dress is really cool.

23. Are they wearing Heelys? ARE THEIR COSTUMES LIT UP?

24. It’s weird seeing all these twitter accounts in person.

25. People want to take pictures of me?

26. Well, you are holding a big lit up comet…

27. Wait, we’re on Instagram?

28. Sam French, Playbill, AND Great Comet posted our pictures?!

Natasha, Pierre, AND the Great Comet of 1812! We're back at @bwaycon Day 2 with some of our favorites. #BwayCon2017

29. WHAT THE HECK?

30. Okay, time to get a photo with Carolee Carmello.

31. She’s so pretty!

32. And she’s so nice!

33. I want her to hug me forever!

34. More people want to take pictures with us?

35. Wait, that was a casting director/producer/investor for Great Comet?

36. Oh my god. What is life.

37. Time for a Workshop!

38. Song Interpretation with Jen Colella was amazing!

39. Everyone who sang was so good!

40. Dave Malloy* is coming?!

*Dave Malloy, the writer and composer of Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812, a.k.a. The Best Show EVER!

41. HE’S MY HERO!

42. Let’s wait in line right here until he gets here in… half an hour.

43. Waiting… waiting… waiting…

44. DAVE MALLOY IS IN THE BUILDING!

45. WHY ISN’T EVERYONE FREAKING OUT?

46. DAVE MALLOY, I LOVE YOU

47. Stay calm… Don’t scare him off!

48. He’s so much taller than I thought!

49. His hug was so nice!

50. I can’t believe he liked our costumes!

51. He signed our stuff!

52. Let’s go get Joel Grey’s autograph!

53. He’s so… tiny!

54. Wait… are those Matildas?

55. Those children are more successful than I’ll ever be and they’re 11.

56. Joel Grey is the most adorable old man.

57. Will he be my adopted grandfather?

58. Wait… is that Dave again…?

59. Bye, Dave! We love you!

60. Wait… It’s over?

61. Everyone here was so cool and talented and nice!

62. Best day ever!

63. I can believe we got over 1,000 likes on Instagram!

64. This has been unreal.

65. I can’t wait to go back next year!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
