Spring Break is one of the most awkward transitions for college students. Back in High School we were used to leaving around mild temperature, usually the end of March or beginning of April. But now at college, the beginning of March, where winter is still unsure if it should be around, is around. So many look to venture to warmer climates, spending more and more money to achieve heat and fun. But you do not need to spend money to have fun, there are ways to avoid breaking the bank.
1. Spend more time with the family
As the beginning of Spring Break occurs, you most likely have spent little time seeing/speaking with your parents during your duration at college. So catch up with them! Ask how both of their days went, if they still like their job, or even when you are going back to college. Just catch up.
2. Spend time with your old friends!
To be completely realistic, the group of friends you were close with in High School, you are probably not that close with anymore. And that is not because you are a bad friend, it is probably because of the distance and the new friends you made at college impairing you to maintain a healthy friendship. So spend time over break to find out how their lives at college are awesome, and how yours is just as awesome.
3. Get things done
Clean your house, walk the dog, freaking mow the lawn, and most of all do the homework that was assigned to you over break. Do NOT be a lazy person over break, you will definitely regret the immense amount of laziness that took over for a single week. Be productive and stay busy, but have a relaxing time.
4. Relax!
Break is an amazing time to relax, we have so much time to do whatever and whenever. Start yoga, read a book that enlightens your brain, and just forget about the stress of school. Even if you do have homework/work over break, do not stress too hard, everything will fall into place.
5. Start a Netflix Show
Fuller House? Daredevil? Grey’s Anatomy? All great shows that can be easily binged watched. I finished Fuller House within a day and I loved every second of it. Netflix is a great tool to use when you have no concrete plans for the week. Explore the ultimate wonders of Netflix and enjoy.
6. Clean Out the Closet
There is no reason you should still have any Hollister made apparel. Or Aeropostle. Look through the large amounts of clothes you have not worn since freshman year of high school and donate it to Goodwill or Plato’s Closet. Create more room for the clothes you already want.
Life can be done without spending money. Creating experiences with friends, family, or your pets allows us to be happy people. Just because you are not going to Miami, Florida, or California for a week does not mean Spring Break will be boring, it means you saved money.
