6 Ways To De-Stress During Finals Week

Let's face it, during finals season the only thing most college students can and do think about is finals. In addition, they often consider how to de-stress during this dreaded week. So, this article should help you come up with some ideas on how to do so.

1. Host a DIY spa night.

Gather your friends and de-stress together! Make your own bath bombs, face masks, foot scrubs - whatever you feel like making! Not only is this fun to do, you are making products that you can use immediately or save for later and use when you just need a little "me time". Besides, making the items is relaxing in and of itself.

2. Attend a yoga class.

This might seem like an obvious way to de-stress, but it really does help! Whether you go with a friend or by yourself, slipping on some yoga pants and doing the downward dog and child's pose will definitely help you find your zen. Even though you'll most likely be sweating, your body and mind will thank you later.

3. Pet some dogs.

Whether it be a random student's dog that is walking by on campus or the resident therapy dog in your school's counseling center, pet that dog. Everyone, dog-lover or not, knows that something about petting dogs is ridiculously calming. Think about it: while petting the dog, you can forget about all the studying you have to do, and just experience pure bliss, even if it's just for a minute or two. Trust me, just do it, you'll thank me later.

4. Create a playlist of your favorite songs.

Who doesn't love creating playlists?! In addition to it being fun, you can play it in the background while you are studying, thereby making it a little less boring. Who knows, depending on what songs you put on your playlist, you might even become more motivated to study! Plus, you'll be able to break up the monotony of studying while you create your playlist. Bonus: you'll be able to share your playlist with your friends so that if they want to, they can play it while they are studying or when they just need a break.

5. Plan a night out with your best friends.

Let's face it, everyone, even the most studious students, needs a night out every once and a while, especially during finals week! Think about it this way, even though you could technically be studying during that time, you are giving yourself some time off so that you can come back feeling refreshed and more than ready to ace your exams! Plus, you'll feel good doing something for yourself.

6. Take a bubble bath.

Take that bath you've been meaning to take, and while you're at it, use those spa products you made! *refer to number 1 on this list. Not only is taking a bubble bath good for relaxing your probably tense muscles, it allows you to relish in the moment, take a deep breath, and truly relax. Not to mention, afterward you'll feel so relaxed, you'll forget how stressed you were, and feel ready to conquer any obstacle that you encounter while studying.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
