6 Tips For Surviving Thursday Nights At JSU
Sex and the City

With one of the largest freshman classes in Jacksonville State University's history, 2016 promises to be one heck of an exciting year. Part of that excitement involves Thursday nights on fraternity row. That was evident this past week. Everyone was out, from freshmen to seniors. Whether you drink or not, it's an experience that everyone should have at least once in their college career. However, there are cardinal rules for us girls to remember when we brave this crazy terrain.

1. Outfit check

Don't leave your house/dorm/apartment without having your friends approve your outfit. If you don't have friends that care enough about you to make sure you look your absolute best before going out, you need new friends. Also, don't be that girl in a t-shirt and norts when everybody else is decked out in rompers and wedges.

2. Assign drivers

Since JVegas doesn't have the luxury of Uber, be smart and assign designated drivers. There will always be at least one friend willing to be the "Mom" for the night and take care of everyone or at least drive you around so you don't end up in a ditch somewhere.

3. Stay together

I can't stress the importance of this enough. Especially if you're a freshman that doesn't know many people on campus, stay with your group or the person that you came with! Don't wander off and risk your safety.

4. Make friends

Don't be that awkward person standing in the corner watching everyone else have fun. Dance, play beer/water pong, talk to people. JSU is "The Friendliest Campus in the South." I promise it's so easy to make friends.

5. Find the best bathroom

You may think I'm exaggerating, but finding a fraternity bathroom with toilet paper and doors that shut is like finding the Holy Grail. They're all going to be a little gross, accept it. And if you're really smart, become good friends with one of the brothers and stash toilet paper in their room.

6. Make a food stop

No matter what time of the night/morning it is, you're going to be hungry when you leave. Hashbrowns will become your saving grace. Whether you're sliding through McDonald's drive through or dropping by good ole Waffle House (my fave), you won't regret indulging your late night cravings.

If you do go out and decide you don't like it, that's cool too, it's not for everyone. No matter what, it's your decision. Don't let anyone (guy or girl) pressure you into feeling like you have to go out or drink or do anything that you don't want to do. Your happiness and safety should be your first concern. So if you do go out, be smart about it. Be prepared, stick together, and most importantly have fun!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
