I was born and raised in Arizona. Personally, there is no where else quite like it. Of course, I went through the phase where I thought there was absolutely nothing to do here. It was just a desert landscape and nothing more. As time goes on, you learn to appreciate the beauty this state holds. From the weather to the activities, Arizona has a lot more to offer than meets the eye. While l love traveling, there are some things I always miss about this beautiful state.
1. Arizona's Stormy Skies
While it may not rain often in Arizona, monsoon season is incredible. The dark purple skies behind the orange dessert landscape is simply breathtaking, especially when lightning strikes. These views are rare, so when an Arizonan witnesses it, they know to take advantage of the site (and generally appear all over Snapchat).
2. Arizona's Sunsets
There are many places in the world with fantastic sunsets. I'm not saying Arizona's sunsets are better, but there is a different kind of beauty to them. As with monsoons, I don't know if it's the landscape or colors or what, but you will never regret taking the time to enjoy an Arizona sunset.
3. Arizona's Heat
Arizona is known for it's lovely, dry heat. Anyone who has experienced an Arizona summer knows exactly what I'm talking about. We have two seasons: hot and less hot. Whenever I find myself in a colder region, I can't help but miss the warmth of my hometown. Plus, I enjoy not having to pile on multiple jackets, a scarf, gloves and hat before leaving the house.
4. Arizona's Waterparks
Arizona may be hot, but you can always beat the heat at one of the several waterparks in Arizona. With extremely high temperatures in the summer, it is no wonder that everyone heads to these parks. They are fun for all ages. With so many options, you never get bored of going to one because you can just go to another!
5. Arizona's Hiking
Sure you're able to hike in several locations, but hiking in Arizona feels a little more adventurous. Yes, you have to worry about things like rattlesnakes and scorpions, but if you grew up in Arizona, then you know it only makes hiking here a little bit more exciting (and nerve-racking). Any Arizona-native knows nothing compares to hiking Camelback Mountain. It is easily a favorite hike for everyone because of the spectacular view of Phoenix available at the top!
6. Arizona's Dutch Bros
Now, Arizona isn't the only place with Dutch Bros Coffee, but it is one of few. So whenever you leave this beautiful state, chances are there is no Dutch Bros waiting for you at your destination. The fun, cool, happy people who work here make waking up early so much better, and to not have them everywhere is sad.
7. The University of Arizona
Last, but certainly not least, is the greatest school in the world, the University of Arizona. From the beautiful campus to the amazing people, it is no wonder that people from all over the world attend U of A. Whenever students leave for break, their Arizona pride can be seen wherever they go.
