6 Things I Won’t Apologize For

6 Things I Won’t Apologize For

We live in a world where people have a ton of opinions and feel the need to share them. As a result, every comment has a chance of offending someone. Now I will be the first to admit that there are some comments I make that are too bitchy, snarky or unnecessary. However, there are some things that I will not apologize for.

1. My Sarcasm

It is my own personal humor. It might be over the line, occasionally, but I am not overly sarcastic with just anyone. I am not apologizing for being sarcastic because if you catch my sarcastic comments that means I am comfortable with you. Be grateful.

2. My Values

I value my family, friends and education. Don’t ever put down my values because you will not like my response. My family and friends are my buttheads, and I will not let anyone talk badly about them. As far as school, it was my choice and I do not care if it isn’t fancy enough for you, but I will not justify or apologize for that.

3. My Dreams

Yes, I have big dreams to change the world and I know it sounds cliché. No, I do not want to hear that they are unrealistic or won’t make me rich. They are my dreams because I am passionate about something greater than me. I am determined. I won’t let anything or anyone get in my way and I won’t apologize for that.

4. My Big Heart

I give more than I have and you will never hear me apologize for that. I have been called naïve or that I care or love too much, but I do not believe in such things. Sure my big heart might have gotten me hurt in the past, but that does not mean I will care or love less. I will not let it change who I am.

5. My “Lack” of Emotions

I don’t get overly excited for just anything. I have only been truly excited recently when I received my dream internship position. I can also be quite frank or blunt when I say what is on my mind. I forget that others are not so responsive to that. I am sorry that you do not understand where I am coming from, but I won’t apologize for how I handle myself and my emotions.

6. Being True To Myself

The truth is I do not care about what others think of me. I am my biggest critic anyway and typically no one else’s judgmental opinions matter to me. I refuse to be anyone but me and I am not about to apologize for that.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
