6 Things We Forget To Thank Our Grandparents For

Because in their eyes, even when we're wrong, we're right.

6 Things We Forget To Thank Our Grandparents For

A lot of times, we forget that while we grow up and start our lives, our grandparents are also aging. Often, we unintentionally take these relationships for granted. Without my grandparents, I wouldn’t be who I am today.

To my grandparents: Thank you...

1. For having an open door policy.

No matter what day or time it is, you always welcome me into your home with open arms. Whether I’m running away from my problems or just need some time away from home (sorry mom and dad, love you), you always make sure I’m comfortable.

2. For always making sure I'm well fed..

Because who doesn’t love food? Whenever I come to visit, you always stock up on all of my favorite foods. You know all of my favorite comfort foods and late night snacks, and you make sure to have plenty for me to fill up on while I’m there. I may gain 10 pounds when I visit for the weekend, but all of the cookies and chips with queso are worth it.

3. For always supporting me.

From giving me life advice to supporting my crazy dreams, you’re always there. You came to my softball games, football games to watch me cheer, and watched me walk at graduation. You always let me know how proud of me you are, and I can’t even begin to tell you how much that means to me. Also, thank you for helping me financially when I need it (and for not telling mom and dad that I spent my entire paycheck on food and can’t afford to pay my cell phone bill… again).

4. For listening to me.

I can call you at any time of the day and complain to you about my life, and whether I’m right or wrong, you always listen to everything I have to say. From failing a test to losing a boyfriend, you’re always there to pick up the pieces. Even on the cloudiest of days, you tell me everything will be okay and it makes all of my problems seem a little less important.

5. For loving me unconditionally.

No matter what mistakes I make, you still love me just the same. Even when mom and dad are mad at me, I know I can turn to you for a shoulder to lean on. You’re there to give me hugs, kisses, and cookies (that we all know grandma fills with love) whenever I need them. Whenever I need some reassurance, hearing “I love you” from you makes the little things disappear.

6. For being my best friends.

No matter where life has taken me, you’ve always been my backbone. You’ve been there through the good and the bad, & you've always been there to help. You make my life better every day, and I continue to learn from you. You’re my support system and my best friends. I can’t thank you enough for all that you do for me. I’m so thankful to have grandparents who I’m able to get to know, spend time with, and most importantly: love.

I’m sorry for sometimes being ungrateful and forgetting to tell you how much you mean to me. You guys are some of the most important people in my life… Thank you for all of the laughs, phone calls, and memories we’ve shared. I love you!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
