Lander University is located in Greenwood, SC. It's a relatively small town, which can be a good thing because everyone knows you. But there are some drawbacks as well, there's not much to do here. Well, over the past few months, I have found some pretty cool things in Greenwood. Hopefully, this will make the weekends here a little more bearable.
1. The Drive-In Movie
Friday through Sunday, you can go watch two movies for $10/person at the drive-in theater. The food is really great too.
2. The Skating Rink
I know there are skating rinks in almost every city, but it is fun to take some friends and go skate around a few times. Some Fridays there is even an all night skate, it starts at 11 p.m. and ends at 7 a.m. the next morning. They also offer laser tag, and mini golf occasionally too.
3. The Bowling Alley
You can never go wrong with a good ole game of bowling. Everything is black lit in the building, and there's always a bunch of people there. They also have batting cages, mini golf and an arcade.
4. The Rodeo
This only happens once or twice a year, but it is definitely something that every Lander student should experience once in their life. The Lander University Equestrian Center hosts a rodeo once a semester. Tickets at $15 for the general public and $12 for university students. There are pony rides, rodeo clowns, barrel racing, bull riding and really good food. The next one is April 8 and 9 at the Lander Equestrian Center.
5. Caffe 312
One of my favorite places in Greenwood. This cozy little cafe uptown is one of the cutest places in the city. You can come in for a meal, or just dessert. My boyfriend and I usually share a cheesecake (which is to die for), and get some hot tea. They have a huge variety of teas to try, ranging from regular green teas to white chocolate and fruity teas. The atmosphere is like something you'd see in a TV show. I would eat there all the time if I wasn't a poor college student.
6. The Theater
Who doesn't love a good play? The theater uptown has a variety of plays and musicals. James and the Giant Peach is their next performance and it opens April 14, and runs until the 17. Auditions for The Little Mermaid are also coming up soon!
