6 Things That Are True When You're From NEPA

Sheetz is better than wawa. Undoubtedly, Wawa doesn't really exist in Northeastern PA. Nonetheless, when NEPA people are presented with Wawa, our home love is still unopposed. Sheetz has one thousand times more food options, and the smell of the mozzarella sticks behind the counter make your mouth salivate.
You assume everyone knows “The Office.” Whenever someone asks the question, “Where are you from?”, I always answer with “The home of The Office!” I never factor in that some people don’t sit in front of the television all day and may not know what “The Office” is. Let’s be honest, “The Office” and Michael Scott are probably two of the proudest connections to NEPA (or Scranton). No matter what area of NEPA you’re from, this standard still sticks.
Such a thing exists as “hunting season.” An overwhelming majority of schools in our area give off days for hunting season. Keep in mind, a lot of schools don’t even give off on Columbus day and Martin Luther King Day. Yeah, let’s not honor great people from past history but instead, honor a few days to go shoot some deer.
You use the term “hoagie.” In any other area, using this term is NOT common place. People look at you like you have a monster on your head because you don’t use the term “sub” to order a nice, big, fat sandwhich.
You’ve likely been to Coopers and it’s the closest to fame you’ve ever been. Coopers seafood is the ultimate restaurant in the area. So many prominent people in the world have been there, and sign the walls leaving their mark behind. Honestly, not much else happens in the area. It’s a pretty irrelevant area, and not much goes on. Needless to say, Hillary Clinton’s signature on the walls of Coopers is a pretty exhilarating experience.
You have experienced parties in the woods. As stated previously, NEPA is pretty much the middle of nowhere. Surrounding areas do not vary; you will either find a corn field or a wooded area. In high school, that’s the only option. You sleep on hay bales, around a fired, or in cars. Country roads take me home, right?

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register.
