Moms. You can't live with them and can't live without them, right? Or is that boys? When I was in high school, I couldn't wait to get out of the house and be on my own. But now that idea is a reality, and my attitude about "being on my own" is a little bit different. It's weird living without my mom now, but at least I know she will always be a phone call away. My mom is my best friend, my biggest supporter, and most importantly, my role model. You know, the older I get, the more I hear, "You look just like your mom," or, "That sounded exactly like something your mom would say," and I'm actually okay with that. I could make an endless list of things that I have to thank my mom for, but let's focus on the biggest ones.
1. Thanks for showing me that I am worth more than I will ever know.
Oh, how I wish everyone could see me through the same eyes my mom does, because she is constantly reminding me how much I am worth. Yes, I know, moms are supposed to tell us we look pretty no matter what and make us feel like the most beautiful girls in the world, but she is actually right. I used to not believe my mom when she said, "You deserve better than that," but now I realize she is not just saying it because it is in the "Mom Handbook." She really means it.
2. Thank you for always being my rock.
From scraped knees to broken hearts, I know I can always turn to my mom to wipe my tears away (or track down the one who gave me a reason for those tears). No matter how old I get, I will always turn to my mom to be my strength when I can't be strong on my own.
3. Thank you for always supporting me.
Even when you knew I was making a stupid decision (99 percent of the time), you always stood behind me with every decision, even the time when I thought I was going to go into the medical field (definitely not my thing, by the way). I can never thank you enough for never giving up on me no matter what.
4. Thank you for never allowing me to give up.
I might have hated you for it at the time, but you taught me that quitters never win and winners never quit. Sure, quitting would have been the easiest option many times in my life, but I have learned to endure some pretty difficult things thanks to you.
5. Thank you for taking care of me when I'm sick.
I know I can be pretty annoying on a daily basis, but when I'm sick, there's no telling how you deal with me. I can promise you that my homemade chicken noodle soup in college holds no comparison to what you made me at home (okay, maybe it was from a can, but still). So, thank you for taking care of my whining, complaining, overall annoying self when I am feeling under the weather.
6. Lastly, thank you for being my best friend.
There's so much I have to thank you for, and this list does not cover much at all, but most importantly, I want to thank you for being my best friend. Thank you for taking all of my phone calls (which can sometimes be 10 times a day), thank you for sending me cat videos (yes, it is always the highlight of my day), and thank you for being you. Oh, and thank you for taking me to dinner in the middle of the week, even though you know it is mainly because I have no food left to eat at the apartment -- you're the real MVP.
