6 Things I Learned From 2016

2016 went by really quick. Lots of things happened around the world in 2016. For me, 2016 was another typical year. It was a stressful year but it was also the year where I learned some things about myself. As the year is ending in a couple of days, I'd like to share what I've learned and here they are:

1. Love yourself.

Value yourself. Treat yourself. You don't need someone to love you in order to love yourself. We all have insecurities but that's how we learn to love ourselves, just slowly appreciate what we have. And don't let other's opinion get in the way for you to love yourself, because if you do care about others opinion, it will slowly kill you, so love yourself. "Beauty is when you can appreciate yourself. When you love yourself, that's when you're most beautiful." Zoe Kravitz

2. Your friends come and go

Friends are good. It's really nice when they're around and you want to share your feelings with them. They help you grow and they're there for you. Sometimes, your friends will be busy and you want them to comfort you when you're down but they couldn't so you have to learn to how to comfort yourself on your own. Don't depend on your friends too much. If they miss you, they'll come around.

3. Seek for new opportunities and get out of your comfort zone

It might be scary to some people to get out of their comfort zone, but that's okay. The more you experience new opportunities, the more you learn about yourself. The world is full of opportunities, you'd never know what you like or you don't like.

4. Family is VERY important

You'll realize at some point that your family is important. I didn't realize they were important until I had nobody to talk to except my family. It's okay if you don't get along with them because they've been there for you since day one. So tell your family that you appreciate them very much.

5. It's okay if you don't know anything because at the end you will figure it out

In the beginning of 2016, I had no idea what I'm doing. Why am I in college? I don't know what I'm doing with my life? What is my future gonna look like? Do I have a plan? It will take time and you will figure it out, and when you do, it will be nice feeling.

6. Good things will come but it'll take time

It might be a bad year to some people, and it might be a good year for some people. Good things will come to you. It might not be tomorrow, next week or even next month. It'll come to you and you have to be patient. Believe that everyone will receive good things in their lives. You don't know what the future might look like.

“Be thankful for what you have; you'll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don't have, you will never, ever have enough” Oprah Winfrey.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
