New Year's resolutions are cliche. So many people make resolutions that they end up never completing. But there is just something so satisfying about having a clean slate and making goals to make the next 365 days count. Here are six things that I'm taking into 2018, as not only resolutions, but as my new mottos.
1. Self love isn't selfish.
Taking care of yourself is one of the most important things you can do, whether that means taking a mental health day or distancing yourself from a toxic friendship. At the end of the day, the only person you are responsible for is yourself and your happiness.
2. Stop stressing over things you have no control over.
Despite how hard you try, there are just some things in life that you can't control. Making yourself sick over worrying about those things is just unhealthy. The best thing you can do is sit back and let things work out the way they're supposed to.
3. Smile more and laugh louder.
Even when you're in the one of the worst moods in the world...smile. It has been scientifically proven that by smiling, you can improve your mood. Stop worrying about if your laugh is weird or if you're laughing too loud...just laugh. It feels good to laugh, and there's truly no better feeling.
4. Buy those concert tickets. Or that new dress. Or book that flight.
I'm going to hit you with another cliche: you only live once. When your favorite artist comes to town, buy tickets to see them. What if they never tour again and you just missed your chance? It's important to take advantage of opportunities when they arise. The last thing you want to do is have regrets. Take chances and live life to the fullest.
5. Love deeper.
There's so much hate in the world and it seems so much easier to fall victim to hate than it is to open your heart up to love. But love is beautiful, in all forms, and it's amazing what it can do to your mood and overall outlook on life.
6. Instead of worrying if you're good enough for someone, start wondering if they're good enough for you.
You are good enough and you always have been. Anyone who doesn't see that is not the kind of person you need in your life.
