Stage One: The Decision
The day you decide to start looking for a summer internship is a big day. It's the day you decide to give up a summer of beaches and ice cream for a summer or professional clothes and getting coffee. It totally counts as a stage. It's a big decision.
Stage Two: The Action
Actually sitting down could take days, weeks, more realistically, months. There is no deadline so the actually search could take some time. Why sit down and apply for jobs when you could be Netflix-ing?
Stage Three: The Hunt
The hunt is about casting a wide net. But really though, you're book marking every other firm and job description. By the time you're done you can barely even read each of the little tabs on you're screen.
Stage Four: The Applying
Finally you start mass applying: sending out applications to every firm, replacing names on cover letters, and copy-pasting essays. We're following that "casting a wide net" thinking. Apply to anything and everything because who knows? Anything can happen.
Stage Five: The Wait
After sending out resumes to anyone and everyone who will accept them the wait begins. The hoping, praying, and wishing that someone will contact you and offer an e-mail is the worst part. Just remember: you win some, you lose some.
Stage Six: The Results
You either never hear back from anyone, you hear back from a few, or you hear back from the ones you really want. Whatever happens, pat yourself on the back for even embarking on the summer internship hunt. Go you! You did it. The hunt will be back again next year.
