As I become older and face trials and tribulations in my own life, I begin to realize how important it is to take mental health seriously. I find little things to do to ease whatever it is I'm going through. Out of everything I do/try, music has been the most effective in easing my mind.
Whether you come across mild anxiety from time to time or suffer the crippling effects of severe panic attacks, I encourage you to find a coping method to combat those feelings because continuously allowing yourself to suffer through those episodes will have long-lasting effects on not only your mental health but also your physical health.
Each playlist has their own unique style of music selection and helps me get through different tasks or with different levels of anxiety. Listen to each and find the style that works for you or create your own with a mix of them.
1. "Anxiety."
I've had "anxiety." followed on my personal account for well over a year now. This playlist consists solely of instrumentals; and not instrumentals of songs that usually have words, but of songs that are strictly made without vocals. If you need to get your mind out of a deep hole, put this on and get lost in the sounds of the instruments.
2. "Relaxing Songs😌"
The playlist "Relaxing Songs😌" has all songs with vocals. Most of these songs are more pop, like Ed Sheeran and Shawn Mendes, which isn't necessarily my style, but still, sometimes I find myself listening to it.
3. "just breathe."
"just breathe." is another playlist I put on when I'm feeling completely overwhelmed or when I'm having a panic attack. This is my favorite playlist to put on because of the mix of indie and chill house EDM.
You'll like this playlist if you love The Head and the Heart, John Mayer, and The xx.
4. "Anxiety Attack"
I knew I liked the playlist "Anxiety Attack" when I clicked shuffle for the first time and a song by The Brook and the Bluff came on. This is probably the most diverse playlist on here, consisting of pop, indie, hip-hop, and alternative.
5. "Have a Great Day!"
"Have a Great Day!" is much different than any other playlist on this list. I put this on whenever I'm trying to flip my mood a complete 180 degrees. I say this because there's no way you can have this playlist on and be sad at the same time, especially with songs like "Dancing Queen," "Brown Eyed Girl," "Come On Eileen," you get the gist. Most of these songs are a lot more upbeat and cheerful and consist of older classic songs.
6. "Musical Therapy"
I am obsessed with "Musical Therapy." This one is similar to anxiety., consisting only of instrumentals. The only drawback about this playlist is that it only has 20 songs.
There's something about music that can act like medicine to the mind. If you suffer from severe anxiety, I recommend that you go get help, whether it's from your friends/family or from a psychologist/psychiatrist. Our University offers fantastic counseling and mental health support at the UA Counseling Center and UA Psychology Clinic.
