6 Useful Spotify Hacks You Might Have Missed

I downloaded Spotify when I first came to college. It was one of those deals where they have discounts for students, so I decided to give it a try! That was over a year and a half ago, and I've loved Spotify ever since. It's crazy because there's still little tricks and hacks that I'm finding on the app. Maybe you know some of these already, but for those who don't, this one's for you!

1. Lyrics

This was one of the first hacks that I found on the Spotify app. It works better on my laptop than on my phone, but that could just be because Samsung is always a step behind on updates. Anywho, if you swipe down on the album cover, the lyrics will pop up. Who knew!!

2. Daily Mixes

Okay so this is one of my more recent findings, and I was pretty proud of it. If you head to your playlists in the apps, at the top there is a selection called "Daily Mixes." In the folder, mine usually has about five different mixes for me, each one covering a different genre, or "mood," of music. It's all of your favorite songs, and more, in a unique playlist designed for you!

3. Connect to Shazam and add songs you've looked up

This is one of the most convenient hacks, in my opinion. Sometimes I get a song stuck in my head or hear it in the coffee shop, but then can't remember it later when I want to add it to my playlist! Although I haven't hooked up Shazam yet (it's been a process seeing that I'm not a tech savvy person), once I get it figured out I'll have one less thing to stress about. How about them apples?!

4. Song Radios

Like a song? Want to hear more music just like it? Spotify lets you! If you click on the three little dots when listening to a song, Spotify gives you the option to go to the "Song Radio," a station that plays music based on your song selection. Can you say...genius!?

5. Going Offline

I always saw the "Offline" button, but I didn't really know what you would use it for. Once I let my friend log into my Spotify, I realized that going offline doesn't just save you data. If you download a playlist and then go Offline, you and a friend can listen on the same Spotify account at once! Going Offline has been so useful, especially when my friend and I are both on our way to class, so we have our headphones in.

6. Spotify "Anthems" on Tinder

Soooo, this one I found when I was on Tinder. I have since deleted my account, but this was a pretty cool feat when I found it. You connect your Spotify account to your Tinder account, and from there you can choose a song to play when people look at your profile. It's your "anthem" so that people have something to chat about other than wondering which one you are in a group picture. Saved by the anthem!!

That's it! Some of my favorite features that Spotify has. The lyrics are the best for some on-the-spot karaoke, and the Song Radios have helped me find songs that I might not have found on my own. There's also the Release Radar and Discover Weekly for finding new/different songs. I love Spotify, but I am always looking for other ways to listen to music. What's your favorite app/feature, and why? Let me know!!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
