Greek life at small schools is a much different breed than it is at large universities. We may not have the huge frat parties, crazy pregames for football games, or several different sororities to choose from on our campus, but being in a sorority at a small liberal arts college has its own unique qualities.
1. You get to know all of your sisters
Weird, right?! It blows my mind that girls at bigger schools don't even know the names of some of their sisters. Going to a small college usually equals a small sorority, so it's easy to get to know everyone. I wouldn't have it any other way.
2. Actually, you pretty much know who everyone in your school's Greek life is
It's kind of like one of those cute small towns where everybody knows everybody and is all up in each other's business -- but better (sometimes).
3. There are only a couple sororities on campus
You don't know the true meaning of rivalry until you've seen two sororities compete over literally everything on campus. It's hard to avoid, but luckily we can all be friends at the end of the day.
4. You've heard a countless amount of GDI's bash your Greek life
We may be small, but we raise thousands of dollars for charity each year, receive the highest GPA's overall, and make up a good portion of leadership positions on campus. You're right, we suck.
5. You don't have a legit sorority house
Whether your school has some weird rule against it, or you simply just can't afford it, not having a house is the worst. If you're lucky, your school is gracious enough to give you the floor of a dorm. It doesn't make up for the loss, but hey at least they kind of tried?
6. The party scene is all but existent
Sure, some girls definitely go out. However, we don't drink for every event like some schools do. Some people might think we're lame for it, but life can actually be fun without alcohol. Say what?
Being in a sorority at a small liberal arts college has its ups and downs, and we definitely don't live the "typical sorority life." However, it's something you can't truly understand or appreciate until you experience it.
