6 Reasons Why Kroger is a Kentucky Student's Best Friend

*** I am not at all sponsored by Kroger or anything, I just think it's great!

1. The Euclid Kroger just a short walk from south campus

Now, I know Euclid isn't necessarily the "nicest" or "safest" area in all of Lexington, which is why you need to remember the two most important safety rules, the first, don't feed the gremlins after midnight. The second, don't go down Euclid after dark. But as long as you go during the middle of the day, you'll be fine.

2. In February and March, girl scouts sell cookies there.

During cookie season, there's girl scouts selling cookies at Kroger basically 12 hours a day every Saturday and Sunday, which is super conviennent since that's prime time for students to shop at Kroger. And you don't have to feel guilty about eating so many sweets, you're supporting a non profit organization by buying them after all!

3. It's WAY cheaper than the wildcat pantry.

The wildcat pantry (a campus chain of small connivence stores) is the quickest and easiest way to pick up a box of cereal, some chips, or bagel bites when you live on campus. However, they rip you off like you wouldn't believe. In the following pictures the left is the Kroger price, the right is the wildcat pantry price.

(Price increase of 40% on the hagen dazs and 57% on the clorox wipes)

By just buying the things that you'd normally buy at the wildcat pantry at kroger instead, you could save absolutely enormous amounts of money.

4. You can sign up free for a Kroger Plus account, and its even CHEAPER!

Literally just go online to kroger.com and create an account. After you do that, simply by typing in your phone number (alternate ID, they call it) when you check out, you'll get special deals that customer's without a plus account don't get. PLUS, you get points that can go towards gas for your car (which doesn't really apply to me since I'm car-less, but, I digress) PLUS you can go online and digitally save coupons before you go shopping that get applied to your purchases when you check out so save you even MORE money. So what are you waiting for?

5. You can do some good and help support a charity with community rewards

Oh and did I mention you can help local charities with your Plus account? Because YOU CAN! Go under community rewards on your kroger account online and pick from a number of local charities. At no extra cost to you, a portion of your purchases go towards that cause! Currently I'm supporting the Bluegrass senior Dog Rescue.

Okay and I know $1.08 doesn't seem like a lot, but there are over 30,000 people enrolled at UK, a large percentage of those people shop at Kroger, imagine the difference that can be made for small local charities with that kind of donation power if everyone signed up for community rewards!

6. Cheap(ish) UK merchandise

Towards the front entrance of the Kroger, seasonal UK gear is sold for a fraction of the price of what you might find at kennedy's or the bookstore. Including coolers, sweatshirts, t-shirts, cups, and so much more! They even sell derby hats during derby season!

So what are you waiting for? Head on down to Kroger right today!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
