Why Everyone Should Own a Cat Shirt:
I don’t know when or why this trend started, and at first I was incredibly hesitant to participate in such “triviality”. Slowly but surly however, I have come to treasure my cat shirts and look forward to seeing all of my fellow cat shirt lovers sporting their proper Caturday attire. There are many that seem to agree with my former opinion of this special day, so I have complied a list, for all my cat shirt skeptics out there, of six reasons why everyone should own a cat shirt.
1. Ummm…Caturday:
Working in any type of environment for young adults, camp especially; Caturday is a regularly scheduled event. In the case of my camp, we are off on Saturdays so we have officially named Wednesday Caturday and on this day everyone wears their cat shirts with pride, hoping that theirs is the “coolest.” On this day, everyone agrees to be complete dorks together and wear a shirt that is meant to promote humiliation as a group. There is something so special and incredible about this day. It makes you feel like you are a part of something, even if it is something as completely ridiculous as a group of people who wear cat shirts together.
2. Cat Shirts are for Cat and Dog People:
If you are a cat person, you are showing your love of cats to the world by becoming a walking advertisement of awesomeness. If you are a dog person, you are showing your distaste of cats to the world by becoming a walking protest of their ridiculousness. Either way you can rock a cat shirt.
3. Everyone looks ridiculous in a Cat Shirt:
There is no one that looks cute in a cat shirt. There is no one that doesn’t look cute in a cat shirt. A contradiction, I know, but everyone looks so absolutely ridiculous in a cat shirt that it is adorable.
4. The hunt for the craziest cat shirt:
One of the greatest parts of the cat shirt trend is the search for the craziest cat shirt out there. Combing the aisles at Wal-Mart with friends, laughing at all of the different crazy shirts that you could never see anyone wearing, then laughing at yourself for picking one of them up. It all sounds really silly, but it’s so much fun, especially when you are all involved in the hunt.
5. AFFORDABLE:
Cat shirts can be found at Wal-Mart and tend to range in price anywhere from four to eight dollars. This is the perfect range for anyone on a college or camp counselor budget.
6. WIDE VARIETY:
There are so many different cat shirts that there is literally a cat shirt for every personality out there. One of the best parts of working at a camp is getting to see everyone’s cat shirt and comparing styles. The best day ever is when you discover that no one else has your cat shirt. (Let the dancing commence.) It is a unique experience, showcasing the some of the attributes that make you who you are, all the while being a part of a larger group.
