Living at college means we are probably a little animal deprived. I know I am, but that's no difference from home seeing as how we have no pets there either. I survive solely on people who walk their dogs in my neighborhood. In an effort to change the pet deprived blues, here's 6 pets that are perfect for dorms.
1.Fish
The obvious choice, fish are perfect for dorms. They're small and low maintenance, which means you can forget to feed them here and there when you're spending late nights in the library. Most colleges allow a 10 gallon tank, so why not get those large goldfish with the bug eyes? Or, get multiple 'fish condos' and fill your room with colorful betas. Here's a website on fish and plants so you can have the best of both worlds.
2. Jellyfish
Even better than regular fish, am I right? And, yes, it is possible to have pet jellyfish. Moon jellyfish are tiny enough to fit in a container on your desk, adding aesthetic to any college dorm room. The tanks are pretty cool, but why not get one that projects colored light onto your jelly, illuminating them and the room? Jellyfish are a way better option than a goldfish, anyway.
3. Lizards
Check out that face, isn't that a face you want to see every day in that bland room of yours? I love reptiles, but sadly, they aren't really allowed in college. Should that stop you? Heck no. Hide him in a tank under your bed and no one will know. Anoles are tiny enough to fit in a small container and easily hide able. Do me a favor and don't buy anything bigger than anoles, those might be too hard to hide.
4. Geckos
Look how cute this guy is! Shout out to the guy who bred geckos in my freshman dorm building, that guy knew what was up. Geckos are also perfect little reptiles to have. Crested geckos and leopard geckos are perfect, tiny little babies that are easy to handle. These guys are omnivores, so you don't need to keep live crickets in your room.
5. Hamster
Having a hamster roll around in a ball in your dorm room is definitely a good way to stave off loneliness and the college blues. Guess what? These are definitely not allowed, so make sure you do a good job at hiding this little guy. Dwarf hamsters are a good size, and also wicked cute, so you can't go wrong with this choice.
6. Hedgehog
My obsession with hedgehogs has gotten to an all time high. But who doesn't want a hedgehog? Keep this tiny little fella in your dorm and you'll definitely be the coolest one around. They're nice to cuddle, too, when they're spikes aren't on you. Be aware, though, hedgehogs need a lot of space to roam, which means a large cage, so unless you need a therapy animal and can get him certified, I don't think you should keep this little guy around unless you have a lot of space to hide him in.
