Sometimes the world seems to be against you. You woke up late for your 9 AM class. Your favorite over-sized-tee has a mystery stain on it. Your order at Starbucks was wrong. Your professor went 20 minutes over in lecture. And as soon as you start getting excited that you get to go home and curl up in bed, your iCal reminds you that you have two meetings tonight. This is a sucky day, and there are few things that can turn it around. But, you are in luck because a great comedy just happens to be one of them.
These are the movies you should reach for or download when you just need a really good laugh.
1. She's The Man
This is my go-to, feel-good movie. If you haven't seen it, you are really missing out. It is one of the most quotable movies due to the comedy genius of Amanda Bynes. It is also Channing Tatum's breakout role, and no one will complain about getting to see him run around playing soccer shirtless. It combines cross-dressing, debutante balls and hot guys playing soccer into one movie. What more could you want?
2. Bridesmaids
This is a great movie for when you want that witty, but raunchy comedy. Kristin Wiig is sensational and relatable in the lead role. She hooks up with jerk guys, self-sabotages her own relationships and has no idea what she is doing with her life. All of this comes together in one epic meltdown that is quite enjoyable to watch.
3. Bringing Down the House
An oldie but goodie, this movie is one of Steve Martin's funniest roles. Playing a stiff, divorced Tax Attorney, Steve Martin's character has his world flipped upside down when he finds out the women he was dating online is Queen Latifa, and she actually just needs legal help. This is one of those movies you just can't help dying laughing at, and I swear it will brighten your day watching Steve Martin get dancing lessons from Queen Latifa.
4. Home Alone
If you bust out laughing when people fall, trip or otherwise get injured like I do, then this is your kind of comedy. I know this is technically a kid's movie, but I still cry laughing every time I watch it. There is nothing funnier than watching a 7 year old kid torment two thieves with genius pranks.
5. Little Miss Sunshine
Do you like weird, indie films? If you answered yes, than this is the movie for you. A quirky film about the youngest child in an off-beat family who decides she wants to win a beauty pageant. Complete with comedy geniuses like Steve Carell and Greg Kinnear, this spunky family will make you nostalgic for your own pack of weirdos that you call family and bring a smile to your face.
6. Zoolander
Ben Stiller. Will Ferrell. Owen Wilson. Male models. The Early 2000's.
There is nothing else I need to say.
I could add more to this list, but if you are having enough crappy days where you need more than six go-to happy movies, there may be a bigger problem that needs to be addressed.
