It’s time to come clean, everyone. We have all had those times when we have nothing to do, perusing through Netflix and scraping the bottom of the barrel of movie selections. Finally, out of complete boredom, you choose a movie that seems to have an iota of potential. Now, if you are lucky, it turns out to be pretty good. Before you know it, you find yourself liking this movie, a movie you were sure no one had ever liked, and was, in fact, impossible to like. So, here it is--a list of those movies that you hate that you love, but love anyways. For the movies you have seen on this list, it is more than likely that you are hiding your love of them from all of your family and friends. Maybe this article will give you the push to come out to them as a trashy-movie-lover, maybe not. For the movies you haven’t seen from this list, I recommend you watch them. However, you have now been warned. You just might end up loving these movies.
First up:
1. "From Prada to Nada"
Is this movie tacky? Yes. Is the plotline completely transparent? Double yes. However, it’s a cute movie that leaves people feeling good inside. The characters are relatable, the boys are cute, and everyone loves a good rom-com. I do need to emphasize: people will judge you for liking this movie.
2. "Holes"
Who doesn’t love Stanley Yelnats, am I right? "Holes" has a great plot, as well as talented actors, and is well-produced. It’s a good movie overall, and young Shia LaBeouf only makes it better. Not to mention, the one and only Burton Guster from "Psych" makes an appearance in the film as well as the great soundtrack.
3. "The Prince and Me"
While recently re-watching this movie, I was reminded just how worthy of eye rolling it is. I mean, really, who goes around apologizing to people in Shakespearian English? Give me a break. However, once you get over the initial dose of eye rolling, you get an adorable movie. It has a cute premise, and the film gets better and better as it goes on. Overall grade: worth sitting through, but no "Notebook."
4. "It’s a Boy-Girl Thing"
This movie right here is the epitome of Netflix dumpster diving, or looking for anything to entertain oneself. However, it’s not half bad. It has teenage angst, unspoken love, a big football game, and even a statue with mythical powers.
5. "Two Night Stand"
This here is an awe-worthy movie. No one takes anything too seriously, there’s a lot of witty banter, and you have Miles Teller. Also, they build the cutest fort in the movie that I could ever imagine. The fact that no one has their lives together in this movie is incredibly relatable. It has an interesting enough plot, but nothing is ever seriously at risk of going wrong.
6. "She’s All That"
In case you needed one more movie where a nerdy girl gets a makeover, turns out to be beautiful, and, spoiler alert, almost beats the mean, popular girl for prom queen, you have one! This movie is funny and, at times, a little weird (I’m still not really sure what to make of the modern performance art scene, but whatever). Also, the classic makeover moment that ends with this perfectly adorable fall is #tooromcom.
All in all, I would highly recommend this movie.
So there you have it--movies that you might hate that you love, but will love anyways. When all else fails and you can’t watch another episode of "Gossip Girl," I hope you use these suggestions to find a worthwhile movie for your watching pleasure.
