6 Mizzou Events You MUST Attend Before School Starts

1. Fall Welcome Concert: Zella Day: August 22, 2015 -- 8 p.m. - 10 p.m.

Each year the Missouri Students Association/Graduates Professional Council holds a Fall Welcome Concert. Last year they hosted Cris Cab and the year before they hosted The Neighbourhood. This year the MSA/GPC department chose Zella Day, an alternative singer. One of her songs, "Sacrifice" was featured in "The Divergent Series: Insurgent." The Welcome Back concert always presents a great way for students to meet each other and jam out to good singer.

2. Midnight BBQ: August 19, 2015 -- 10 p.m. - August 20, 2015 -- 1 a.m.

The Midnight BBQ always draws in over 10,000 students. There is so much free food, drinks and activities to keep you busy throughout the entire night. This one giant block party spanning Rollins Street is a must for anyone--freshman, sophomore, junior or senior. It is literally the biggest event of the year.

3. Revue: The Summer Encore: August 19, 2015 -- 8 p.m. - 9 p.m.

If as a freshman you went to Summer Welcome, you got to witness a one-of-a-kind show dedicated to all things Mizzou-related. There is singing, dancing, and humor all packed into one hour. Each year the show is completely different to keep up-to-date with the newest songs, dance moves and things students need to know about Mizzou. If you have not got to witness Revue this year, this event is an absolute must.

4. Bid Day: August 23, 2015 -- 10 a.m.

For the first time ever, Mizzou’s Bid Day will be held on Faurot Field. For years, it was held on Mizzou’s quad, making the experience even more reminiscent of running to the columns to where all of your sisters are after opening that coveted envelope. First there is tension, anxiety and nervousness in the air, and after the countdown ending with the honk of the horn, screams, tears and lots of hugging can be seen. Head over to the football field the morning before classes start to get in on all of the insanity that is bid day.

5. Paint the M: August 21, 2015 -- 9 a.m. - 11 a.m.

Dating all the way back to the year 1927, white-washing the M has become a one of Mizzou’s core traditions. Mops are used as paintbrushes, and students can be seen dumping buckets upon buckets of white paint on the rocks that make up the iconic “M.” Although this event is primarily marketed towards freshmen living in the residence halls, upperclassmen always come by to help out.

6. Tiger Walk: August 23, 2015 -- 6 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

This year the freshman tradition will be celebrating its 20-year anniversary. Proposed by the Director of Residential Life Frankie Minor, the Tiger Walk has become a staple for every Mizzou freshman. And for those who thought they were too cool for it, or could not attend for other reasons, always live to regret not entering into Mizzou metaphorically. If you are a freshman, do not be that upperclassman, go to the Tiger Walk. The Buck’s tiger-stripe ice cream you receive after waiting in the heat makes it all worth it.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
