6 Lessons I Learned From Being A Fangirl

It's not all just screaming and crying.

Anyone who knows me knows that I was and probably still am a fangirl. The hysteria surrounding such extreme fandom typically invites a stigma around this level enthusiasm. However, there are plenty of life lessons that can be taken away from being a slightly less crazed fangirl.

1. Good things come to those who wait.

Whether it's waiting in line for a concert or waiting up until midnight to hear a new album as soon as it comes out, waiting is something with which fangirls are familiar. In life if you want something good, it isn't going to just be handed to you. You're going to have to be patient and wait for it.

2. Market yourself.

You want to be Bieber's "One Less Lonely Girl"? You want Harry Styles to make eye contact with you from the stage for 0.5 seconds because you just know it will be those 0.5 seconds that he realizes he's actually in love with you? Well then you're going to have to stand out from the rest of the crowd. Just like for any other real world opportunity you're going to want to differentiate yourself from the rest of the crowd.

3. Be kind to strangers.

Whether it is the group of people next to you in line or someone who reaches out to you on social media because you enjoy the same things, be kind. I've gotten amazing rewards simply just for being nice to people and it is 100 times easier than putting so much energy into being rude.

4. Be passionate in everything you do.

It is safe to say that there is a certain amount of passion for whatever you're "fangirling" about. If you put that same amount of passion into other aspects of your life (your career, hobbies, schoolwork, etc.) it'll be hard for you to not be successful.

5. You know the worth of nice things.

Whether it is getting an autograph and being able to meet your favorite celebrity or getting really good seats for a concert, you don't take it for granted. You know amazing opportunities don't come around everyday and cherish them when they do.

6. You already know the importance of budgeting.

There's nothing worse than when multiple tours you want to go to are announced all at once and knowing you'll be broke. And if you're going to want to buy any merch at said concerts, you'll probably have to start a GoFundMe. At least you'll be prepared for college and will know how to make $5 last you a whole week.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
